Motor Authority reports by way of Auto Motor und Sport that GM plans to build the next-generation Saturn Astra in the United States. In an article discussing the future production plans for the Opel Astra, the website wrote that the new Astra "will be available in coupe, three and five-door hatchbacks and wagon, and possibly a sedan, and is expected to first go on sale in Europe in early 2010."

The article means that production of the Astra will be in the US, even for the stuff sold in Europe or South America. The Astra is one of the best selling cars in the world. GM is moving European production to the US much like they've moved other cars to Mexico, to lower costs.

I wish.

I would really like to see them build the next Astra in Spring Hill. It would make sense. They could move the Traverse production to the Michigan plant where they build the Outlook.

if that were the case, I'd buy one without even thinking (as long as they offer something better than the engine/tranny combination they offer now).
Otherwise I'm now driving my first and last GM.
