2004 ION-3 Quad Coupe
|
Hey everyone! I just bought a 2004 ion 3 quad coupe two weeks ago, but I have been having some problems starting it; it wont start in the morning but in the afternoon it will (its like a teenager). With help from my husband we discovered it was an ignition switch problem, which is common in IONs *phew*
My problem is, the dealership I bought it from in Alberta (a three day drive away) is willing to pay for any repairs on the vehicle so I brought it to a mechanic up here to give it a once over. The shop said absolutely nothing was wrong and where the computer said nothing was wrong they wont fix it! I gave up and decided i'll do it myself but at the part stores, when I ask for an ignition switch for my model they keep bringing me the ignition lock cylinder. EEK! As one of the threads said it is a square black box and when I ask for that all the guys look at me as if im stupid. Does anyone out there know the part number? I know VERY little about the ION where my husband has a '95 SL2. Parts are incredibly limited up here especially where we dont have a saturn dealership and I want to make sure GM is sending me the correct part. Am I the stupid one or are they? haha

You can do one of two things; either try degreasing some of the grease from the ignition switch that should make it work again, as other Ion owners have done successfully from past posts, or look up the parts from http://rockauto.com, they mail to Canada too. Pictures on their site will confirm what you want as well as a call if you're in doubt. They're also a sponsor here and I have absolutely no affiliation with them but I do like their parts/pictures for reference instead of relying on store clerks. Just my little faults but you'll see what I mean when you shop on their site.
BTW, nice of you to post all necessary info in the beginning. All newbies should take notice............................................ ..... ... *The CPS is the heart of the entire EFI system. No cps = dead EFI system* *There's more to a/c than just a few cans of refrigerant* *There's more to brakes than just replacing parts*

Hey hun, the one from the rock auto site is AIRTEX Part # 1S6097 The AC delco one is cheaper but they have no picture so I'd stick with that one. I'd still hold off until I can get down to napa or robbins to see how much less it is with my work account.
... It's not custom if the check engine light isn't on.
