Onstar 8.0

The 2009 Vue's are going to have onstar 8.0, I want it for my 08 so I can have bluetooth connectivity. How do I get it or change what I have for my car? Apparently you have to get the convenience package for the bluetooth.

I don't know if it will be possible to get the OnStar offered in the 2009's on your 2008...I may be wrong but I remember a thread discussing this before and it seemed to be assumed that this wouldn't be an option. You can always ask the people that would know best...the Saturn dealer.

i would have to think that it would be cheaper to just use the car phone.

Bluetooth is an excellent feature but AFAIK there has never been a version upgrade offered for Onstar. If the feature isn't present with your current Onstar system when you buy it, then it won't be available later on down the road. The only exception to this is when Onstar offered the upgrade from analog -> digital. Even then, it didn't provide any new features, only allowed the service to continue in digital form.

I think you will have to add an aftermarket system to get bluetooth or trade in for an '09.

That's what I was thinking. I know that a lot of people that had cars with the original onstar that was analog only were upset when they stopped supporting it because they couldn't switch their systems for a digital one...the people with digital ready analog systems were able to have their systems updated though. So if just getting an upgrade for something like that was difficult for some I would assume that just trying to get a feature not originally built into the one you currently have may be difficult at best...

It would be nice to be able to have the bluetooth option added...I'm sure a lot of people would prefer that over having to either buy their high pre-pay minutes or add a line to their Verizon accounts in order to use the phone feature in current models.

The Bluetooth connectivity option is not just a part of Onstar 8.0. Yes... you need v8.0 for it to work, but there are new buttoms on the steering wheel controls and the information is displayed through the radio display as well.

It all functions together as a system & is very cool!

So is it safe to assume that this is not an upgradeable option for 2008 Vues?

Until we hear it from Saturn, I wouldn't get my hopes up...

So, I called Saturn Customer Service. They couldn't help me. They told me to call Saturn Marketing..

Wrong again.

Saturn Marketing told me to call OnStar.

OnStar said NO.

That's sad, an upgrade would have been nice, GM.

Depending on how bad you want it you can always consider the aftermarket.

Did you call sales? Try calling the tech line. I think you will get a different answer.
Both the VUE and Outlook as well as most newer GMs use the GMLAN protocol for communication between the various modules in the vehicle.
The sales people are just quoting from the latest application guide. The tech people typically know what they are talking about.
