Dizzy over heats..

i have a 02 sat sl a/t 126,400. miles on it,it runs great, but when im in heavy traffic or at a stop light the engine will start to get hot, when i start to move the temp will cool down,i flushed the coolant system installed a new therm.still the same..ive been told its a bad head gaskit ( no oil in coolant and oil dip stick clean oil on it ) could it be a clogged rad or bad water pump? i've noticed when i rev the engine the coolant in tank will get low them come back up...please advice,thanks...

How hot does it get? Does it hit the red zone on the gauge?

Does the cooling fan eventually turn on?

Does coolant ever steam or gush out of the reservoir cap?

BTW, your car is probably an SL1; I don't think the SL ever came with an automatic.

Your vehicle is operating as it was designed to. I can't beleive that every week we are still getting these "My car overheats sitting in traffic" threads. I mean honestly, hasn't every person owns or has owned an S Series car posted about this yet? There must be a billion threads exactly like this one.
To the OP--doesn't it make sense to you that when you're sitting in traffic your car would heat up since there is no airflow going across the radiator? You can't fix a problem that isn't there.

High temp in traffic, click on your fan and press A/C button on. Then watch temp needle drop.

Operating as designed. The red line is overheating, go past it and your car is overheating. Anything below it is normal operating temperature.

i've been on the internet i think the water pump is worn, but does not leak.if rad is clogged it would be hot all the time i asume.cooling fan will come on sometimes.( fan motor good ) at the half way temp line the a/c air will get warm but when i start moving the temp cools down and a/c gets cold.or a bad rad motor senser( temp senser )

If your really worried about it you can turn the heat in the car on full blast that will cool the engine alittle!

The water pump can't get "worn". If the belt is turning, it's working. It's not leaking. Your car is NOT overheating. The fan comes on BEFORE the gauge hits the red zone. It's morning again in America. Everything is fine. These aren't the droids we're looking for....

Seriously, which of Squareback's words "operating as designed" wasn't clear?

One last question (famous last words?): When you turn on the A/C, does the cooling fan come on?
