I am photo-challenged, but on my 97 the IAT is in the snorkel that goes from the intake box to the front of the car. Trace the small plastic connector with wire and there it is.

Please don't tell us that you picked up a $20 Speed Chip (50 cent resistor) off of eBay.

While you're out picking up that resistor, pick up some spark plugs, O2 sensors and a catalytic converter. You're gonna need those too.

Hi guys...

I am a newb on the site, but just bought a 98 Saturn SL@ with 55k on it, and am loving it! I have now become obsessed with gas mileage, after getting 15-20 mpg in my last car ('91 BMW 525i). I think I am a sucker, as I bought one of those performance modules from eBay because of the 3-5 mpg improvement the seller promised in their auction.

After reading this thread, I am hesitant to install it. Is it going to potentially cause damage to my car? If so, I'd rather just cut my $40 loss and not install it. Any guidance that you could provide would be appreciated!

It's just going to give the computer a false and skewed reading of intake temp. Could a way too lean condition do some long term damage? Sure. It probably won't but I would never run a hack mod like that.

A way-too-lean condition burns things, such as pistons and valves. BAD in motorcycles and cars too.
