I was leafing through my Haynes book.... does my 1997 have a knock sensor? Would you really test it by connecting a timing light (I have one
In the area of the starter (backside of the engine) there are several "sensors". One is CPS, I know that one I assume another is oil pressure? And the others???? ... 97 SL. Born 6/5/97. Charcoal Canister Purge Solenoid. Knock sensor test: Start motor an allow to idle till warm. Take a nice thin wood rod and tap on the knock sensor several times rapidly. If engine goes nuts then it is working. You do not have to hit it very hard. You can get at it from between the intake runners. Usually if you tap the block next to it with a long screw driver you get the same result.

my electrical class was talking about knock sensors last week. it's kinda interesting how they work by compression of crystals sending off electric signals. Kind of like the needle on a record player

I get code 43 on my 95 SC2 ses light. Knock sensor code. The car idles a bit rough, and occasionally feels like it is going to stall, but doesn't.
It runs pretty strong other than that. does this sound like knock sensor failure symptoms? I have recenlty replaced the Ox sensor and the ects, as well as plugs, cleaned the throttle body and so on. Thanks
