Default Saturn to Drop 'Green Line' Name for Hybrids in '09

A new feeditems entry has been added:

Saturn to Drop 'Green Line' Name for Hybrids in '09

Quote:
David Thomas over at Cars.com's Kicking Tires blog reported yesterday that Saturn plans to drop the "Green Line" moniker and logo from its hybrid vehicles for 2009. Instead, the Aura and Vue hybrids will just be called, well, "Hybrids." The change is an attempt to simplify Saturn's nomenclature in order to make easier for folks who were not familiar with Saturn terminology to recognize a Saturn hybrid when they see one.

That's horrible! I think it sound unique to call it Green Line than having the same name that everyone else has at this point. Oh wait you know you can't blame SATURN because they are starting to be a follower on everything now. GM has really have SATURN under a spell, which is a good thing & bad thing.

This does not say much for the intelligence of the average current non-Saturn buyer who Saturn is targeting for its hybrid conquest sales.

That's unfortunate! Being that they have haven't done much with the redline name either!

I like the "blahblahblah-line" idea.. I would have liked to see it used more.

Yet another unique Saturn idea dropped

No one will notice but us

It actually makes sense. There must be someone at Saturn looking outside the box...

Everyone knows what a hybrid car is. It's simple and it shows that Saturn is equal to the competition. They will be equal in a few months when the dual mode comes out.

Since everything else these days is being touted as "green", this seems to be shortsighted--but then it is GM (Generic Motors). On the other hand- they do not seem to really have any hybrids anyway. Very few at dealers and just about every news story I have seen recently that discusses automakers with Hybrids does NOT mention GM. The deafening silence suggesting that GM has no hybrids to discuss.

The new "milder" Hybrid VUE has been doing well.

At $1500 more you can more than get back your extra expense and help the ecomomy. It gets 25/32. A lot of hybrid for the money...

It was never a true hybrid to begin with, how can GM justify just calling it the "Vue Hybrid"? Makes no sense to me.

The "true" two mode hybrid is due soon as a 2009 model. By definition the current VUE Hybrid is still a hybrid, just is not as effective as the Prius.

My concern was the added complexity would burn the consumer when they get older and out of warranty. The true hybrid is even more complex, so I hope the engineers don't overlook anything.

I liked the Green Line name. Although, dropping it is no big deal, as the cars always said Hybrid on them, with no real Green Line logo on them.

Green Line, we hardly knew ye.

The General's hybrid model cars had the corporate Hybrid logo on the sides, which were larger and got right to the point.

I also understand that next year, the SATURN script will be returning to the decklid in most if not all of their vehicles, so having a green badge and the Saturn logo, the model and trim level/engine displacement will make the trunk appear rather busy. No wonder the latest trend in customization is "shaving" (removing all badging for a cleaner look).

More like an attempt to drop everything that was once Saturn unique, and turn into all GM. Might as well then, since Saturn is far from a unique brand anymore.

Maybe they're saving the name for an Astra diesel! (I'd like to see a small diesel, kinda like the old VW Rabbits with 40-50 MPG).
