Default IAC Code and high Idle

Hello all...nice to see a place where fellow Saturn fans can talk.

I used to own a 1993 SL which I bought used with 90,000miles and drove it until 175k sold it to my brother in law who put another 12k on it

I loved that car.

I now have a 2002 SC1 5 spd.

It has an idle issue. The code says it's the IAC but I have replaced the IAC, checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned the throttle body. I clear the code and within 40 miles it's back.

Any suggestions?

What was the code? How did you check for vacuum leaks? I would suspect an intake gasket manifold leak. This is a common issue with the 00-02 SOHC.

Hit the intake to cylinder head area at cylinder #1 with some carb cleaner. A change in the idle will determine if it is leaking. There are alot of threads here with this issue.

2002 + IAC with high idle code+ SX1= BAD INTAKE GASKET

+1 on the brake cleaner test around each cylinder for confirmation of the bad gasket

Rock auto has the gasket for 15 bucks

Check one of my recent threads for a how-to

PO507 is the code - IDLE RPM higher than expected.

Vacuum leak check was done by spraying carb cleaner on all vacuum hoses I I could see and around the IAC valve and other components attached to throttle body.

I didn't not spray around the cylinder head intake area.

Check the intake manifold. It is a known offender.

Ok I have narrowed it down.

Spraying carb cleaner around the #1 fuel injector/cylinder head and the the idle changes drastically.

Well, almost everyone suggested that you may have an intake manifold gasket leak so carefully check again. Be sure it isn't an injector leaking air around it, pulling in air and messing up the air/fuel mixture. Just a short spray while idling should do it otherwise carefully do the same to the area where the intake manifold and engine block meets; the gasket not being assembled correctly may leak air into the manifold and cause the high idling. Most likely the gasket needs to be replaced.
