Grrr! GM finally starts to turn things around and these idiots want to strike. They should be happy they have a job. I just do not understand the union mentality. I was in the UAW for 8 years when I worked in a plant in NJ. You would not believe the lousy work ethic of the majority of the union members. I also have a family member who works in a GM plant. One part of the line will screw things up on purpose so that those further on down the line can get overtime. Then they kick back money to the ones that helped screw things up. Its very organized.

With the downturn in the economy, a strike could work to GM's benefit.

Fewer cars being made means fewer unsold ones on the market.

This would be terrible, because GM is having trouble supplying enough new Chevy Malibus as it is. This would surely cause consumers already waiting for one to look elsewhere.

Good recipe to lose their jobs , if they do ...
I have seen this else where the company move the jobs (high wages) to a cheap labor plant ( no union )

Some workers have high wages and want more and more and they think they have found a way to get more.

Production workers at my plant doubled their wages with overtime but it backfired it's closed now !

Just some food for thought; the SPEEA union is comprised of professional engineers that create some of the best military and commercial aircraft in the world. When Boeing decided to outsource and attempt global manufacturing of its commercial aircraft parts with downsizing its engineering staff as part of its cutbacks more independent engineers that negotiated solely for themselves saw the need to belong to a group to add negotiating power that they don't have as independents. I find it interesting that professional engineers feel the erosion of their bargaining individuality forces them to band together to stand strong against Boeing. When all was said and done, outsourcing began back in 2000 bringing forth delays and complaints by SPEEA that organizing large scale manufacturing with vender suppliers from many foreign nations delivering various aircraft parts for assembly here is a monumental exercise in organization and management on a global scale, politics aside. I suppose there are the inevitable teething problems associated with such a large undertaking and the back office backbiting that ends up as production delays such as the debut of the 787 Dreamliner. There seems to be a delay in the debut of Airbus' largest commercial aircraft. Funny how we look from different points of view and the effects business, unions, politics, and money affects local, regional, national, and international poilcies. We're growing more intimate internationally than ever.

this is why things cost so much and there are so many warranty issues and complaints about, for, and of GM... from the posting about how they act in the plants if thats true!! oh my goodness... GM is so different and yet so much the same as it was back in the years of my early childhood, when my grandfather worked there.. he put in 40 years plant 3, plant 7, and some at plant 11 GM/Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana. He was in tooling... not sure all the details of that department. He passed away in 2003 but retired in the early 90's when all the **** started to really hit the fans... this is when they started putting in gated, badged gates, and people were clocking people in and out while they slept somewhere in the factory.. bue05
