Default Jill Lajdziak's Role at Saturn Expands with GM Reorganization

A new story entry has been added:

Jill Lajdziak's Role at Saturn Expands with GM Reorganization

Quote:
General Motors announced today that its U.S. marketing and field operations will be more strongly aligned into four retail channels:
  • Saturn
  • Chevrolet
  • Cadillac, Hummer, Saab (Premium Channel)
  • Buick, Pontiac, GMC (BPG Channel)
Each channel will be focused on continuing to deliver world-class products for their customer and build value for GM and their respective dealers.

Still too many channels, Saturn should have been incorporated with one of the other three channels.

At this point in history Saturn should just join up with Chevrolet and be their import car division like GEO was.

No way! I think Saturn needs to stay separate... especially from Chevrolet!

Who let this guy in here?

Now, seriously, I have been predicting this for about two years. But with Saturn as joined-in with pont-buick-GMC. I am glad that I was wrong. A blind man could see this change coming in some form.

I AM GLAD TO SEE THIS NEWS! Cograts Jill!

It will be good to see Cadillac out of the Chevy dealers if that happens.
We have 2 local Saab dealers. One is a stand alone and very small and probably couldn't handle selling all 3 premium brands. It's a pretty cool dealer though, kind of what you'd like to see for a luxury car dealer. No giant lots and "No Money Down" "We take all Credit" signs plastered everywhere.
Roberti Saab
The other one also sells Lincoln-Mercury.

Boy, a lot of love for Chevrolet out there... Imagine the sales volumes Saturn could achieve through their network.

IMO the writing is on the wall, every day Saturn is getting closer and closer to be combined with another group of GM divisions. Everyday the walls separating Saturn from the rest of GM is getting lower. Like the GM Card credit card news last week.

Saturn either has to go with Chevrolet group, Buick-Pontiac-GMC group, or Cadillac-Saab-Hummer group.

If Saturn goes "Gung Ho" with the Opel imports, they would be unique enough to join even the Cadillac group. IMO with state of the economy, and the low value of the dollar; will doom the plan to import more Opel vehicles into the US. Astra sales have been slow, but it needs more time to decide whether or not it was worth the effort.

Importing is never worth it. It's not even worth it for companies that were import brands in the first place. If you ever see an interview with the president of Toyota one of the first things he'll talk about is how much money they lose importing cars.

They're trying to quit but sometimes a vehicle doesn't sell enough to be worth building in more than one plant

Were Saturn to be incorporated with Chevrolet to REPLACE??? Chevy's foregin built small cars, it would be a disaster for Saturn. We would be swept into a broom closet somewhere far away. I read the press release too and am sad to say it looks like GM still isn't so clear as to how to market Saturn.

As for all that corporate shuffeling, it appears very clear that Jill has been cut off at the knees. Very sad.

Ok, I'll buy a Saturn/Opel combo joining with the Caddilac/Saab and maybe Hummer in the biggest "import intender" sales and service organizations in the country. Many standards would have to be raised above even import expectations, but it could work. Lets do it!

Guess GM could reintroduce Oldsmobile/LaSalle as it's "History Channel".

I like the pairing of Saturn with Cadillac/Saab and Hummer. It would go with Saturn's so called moved to Premium level status

If Saturn needs to be absorbed into one of the other channels, it should be Saab/Hummer/Cadillac, but let's cross that bridge when we reach it. Saturn could cover the entry point of the aspirational brand channel. There will be too much product overlap if Saturn was merged with B-P-G. Eventually, Astras will be built somewhere in North America or Mexico for our market. Importing from Europe was not meant to be a permanent arrangement.
