Default Brake shudder

My front brakes shudder the first 2 times I press the brake and then it goes away. This happens only after a rain and not in dry weather. Its not the grinding noise (when rotors are warped) but a loud shudder. I had new OEM pads installed just 2 months ago and the rotors were resurfaced at the same time. The dealer told me I had enough rotor thickness to last 2 more years. Any idea if this shudder is normal??

I'd check your wheel bolt torque and make sure it's to spec and consistent; could be they "tighten up" after they heat up with a few brake applications. If they aren't properly and consistently torqued, that will also contruibute to disc rotor warpage, which will cause the shudder (though that wouldn't generally "go away" after using the brakes the first few times).

I sincerely doubt your shudder has anything to do with wheel lug torque. More likely since it occurs ONLY on the first few stops after or during WET weather, what you probably have is an "overnight" rust spot on the rotors themselves. It just takes the first few braking efforts to "wear" off the minor surface rust making minor stutter/shudders in the process...typical occurance on factory and some aftermarket Saturn brake rotors.

Meister, I checked the torque and its correct. Thanks for the replies Meister and Wolfman. Its raining now and I will see how the brakes will respond the first few times tomorrow morning.

The brakes on my wife's '99 SW1 have done that since new after a rain or even morning dew. I think Wolfman is right, and it is probably normal.
