Default Prior SL1 owner heading towards Astra

I previousely owned a 2001 SL1(bought new for college) and frequented this board. The car was totaled last year (rear ended by Hummer) so I used the insurance money to buy a little ford ranger outright.

Im moving soon and will be inheriting a 80 mile roundtrip to work, so Im looking at small cars.

I really liked the Scion xD features(not the looks) and Honda fit(not the price). After bouncing those two around I gave the Astra a look. The initial price is a little higher, but for the $15900 model 5spd man + A/C you are getting the same car as the others which adds great styling, good mileage and more room at a good total price. It also seems you get better deals out of GM and Ford lately.

Im about 80% set on this car and a smartbuy(how I bought my SL1). Prob go 36mo's, to have a lower payment now, then finance the rest for 24mo's at the end.

Ill be keeping an eye on this forum for the time being, should be buying in early May.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Good luck! You will enjoy the Astra very much! I do, and the smart buy is realy a good way to manage your money. Have you driven one yet?

I loved my SL1 for what it was, an inexpensive car that was very reliable(not one breakdown in 76k miles) and got great mileage. Only thing I did not like is the lack of power windows and locks. I bought it without cruise but later added it with the help of this forum.

I really like the Scions, but the styling of the Xd is bland compared to the Astra. The interior of the Astra looks great IMHO.

I figure a 36 mo's smartbuy then Ill finance the rest thru GMAC(just like I did the old saturn)

Keep in mind at this time there is no lease or smartbuy on the Astra. Maybe by May they will have one but for now it's too new.

Huh. That stinks. When you build it online, it gives you smartbuy and lease numbers.

Ok there is one on the site but it is not a sub-vented rate. Which means the payment is way too high on it till a good lease or smartbuy deal comes out. Wgen that changes ill let you know.

Ah, ok thanks.

I noticed that their interest rates did seem high compared to yota. Hopefully there's more before early May.
