Mad 2003 Vue Body Control Module

My 2003 Vue with about 48000 miles on it recently began showing classic signs of a body control module failure. The tacometer reads 696,000 miles or something like that and multiple dash lights come on and go off at various times. I'm planning on taking it into the Saturn dealer at the end of the week and expect to pay the $500 or so for a new module. Until then I've considered disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes as I've seen recommended on the forum before to see if the computer will reset itself and work correctly for a while. Anyone know if that could cause any additional problems? Can't imagine it could hurt too much. Also anyone know whether the odometer will reset to the correct mileage one the BCM is replaced? I kind of wonder how the computer would know the correct mileage to go back to since it seems to have lost track it for the last several weeks.

The dealer will have to set the mileage for the vehicle when replacing the bcm.

They legally can not enter a mileage under what the current mileage on the odometer says...If it says 696,000 when you take it in they will program it at zero and put a sticker under the hood stating not correct mileage..

If they have service records at THEIR dealer and can see that it had only 30,000 or 40,000 just months ago you may be able to talk them into reprogramming it with a few thousand more miles than that and not having to put a sticker under the hood....If the dealer has no repair history, unfortunately they must program it at zero and add the sticker unless it shows true mileage and they don't know it's wrong...(If the odometer is correct or lower than actual mileage when you take it in for service be carefull of what you tell them about the odometer acting up if you don't want a sticker put in for resale reasons)

1-I can only guess that the worst that can happen, when the battery cables are disconnected or not, is that the Passlock anti-theft system becomes enabled requiring a tow to the dealer. This will be a random occurrence and may or may not be something that can be reset.

2-In NY State, vehicle mileage is printed on the registration sticker upon inspection.

I finally took my Vue into Saturn and they confirmed a BCM problem. They were able to determine the correct mileage, I guess it stores in a computer someplace else so all is working well now. $561 to replace and program.
