2007 ION-3 Sedan
Default Re: Saturn Ion, GM Score in Loyalty Study

I'm not surprised. Right now, I'm driving my THIRD Saturn and my SECOND Ion. It's one of the last of the breed, a 2007 Ion 3 2.4 sedan/automatic. It's black and I traded in my '04 Ion 2 for it. Love the car--even better than the '04! No problems yet. Still great service from my dealer (let's hear it for Saturn of West Sahara, Las Vegas)! This is a keeper. For sure.

WELL, WELL, WELL, I wonder how Automobile publications expect to justify their editorial assasination of the Saturn Ion now?

This is the second consecutive year that the Ion garnered the highest customer satisfaction of any car in it's compact car class.

I'm not going to fight this war all over again. We all know what happened and why. Far too many of us simply caved in and agreed that we had a real turkey here and it would go away some day.

The Ion is history now, replaced by the Astra argueably Saturns best compact offering ever. What a pity such a good little car will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

I'll bet most of those who "caved in" never owned one. Also Saturn can only blame itself for not doing better marketing of the ION with the 2.4 L engine.

I used to drive a 2005 Ion III and rather enjoyed the car. Most of my daily commute is on the highway and my Ion performed quite well, even with the 2.2.

Now that I drive an Aura with a V6 I miss the fuel economy of the Ion. Even though the manual transmission was not well received by the critics, I thought the vehicle shifted just fine. Some of my friends and co-workers were surprised by the options that came with my Ion. Many were surprised to see a compact car with leather, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and traction control. I especially liked the 16" alloy wheels.

Way to go Saturn!

There is a decent chance I would have gotten an Ion3 with a 2.4 in a few years if the car model was still around. I even considered doing it last year because the Ion is going away, however my current Ion3 with a 2.2 is paid off and in pretty good shape, so I didn't think it made sense to trade my car in and get stuck with car payments again.

May as well enjoy my paid off car and drive it until it falls apart and buy a used car when necessary.

I am on my forth Saturn and have owned 2 Ion's over the years. I recently bought an Aura, but I will keep my Ion for a long time because I know it is low maintenance and will also be a reliable. Congrats to the Ion!

Hey if one just read the B.S. complaints and posts on this site one would never buy an ION .. or any Saturn for that matter.

Stuff like ... My Saturn has 2149 miles on it and I've had to put in a new heater core, radio, front sway bar bushings, brakes, door seals, battery, and next week I'm going to start a class action law suit about the 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty not being a bumper to bumper warranty. Then I'll see if my dealer will give me a free SKY diecast for being such a great customer.

I love my ION. It's my 3rd Saturn vehicle. There will always be haters. Most people go straight to talking junk about the center gauges being "gay" or "Ooh why are you racing that? It's just a Saturn...right before I smoke them

I agree that most of the people who talked crap about the ION never owned one. If everyone listened to what Car and Driver said, the whole world would be driving Honda Accords and BMW 3-series.

Well said, and agreed.

I've never quite understood the bad reception to the Ions.

Even my own family... Being GM loyalists... Talked down the ION, until I brought it home... Now, it's totally different.

friends say the same... Just wait until I get an Aura.

Anyway, I've loved my ION... And to be honest with you, I was never really thrilled with SATURN as a company until then...

There it is loyalty. Bam.

First off, I didn't know gauges had a sexual orientation. Second, what makes the Ion's center-mounted pod gay? Love of Broadway? "Queer Eye" makeover? Bette and Barbara CD collections? Don't get it. As one who's heterosexually challenged, I can say for sure MY Ion's not "gay." But its driver is. Snap!

What's not to like about IONs? What baloney! I LOVE my '07 2.4 Quad Coupe. She was the very first '07 model anything sold at my local Saturn dealer back in the summer of '06. Now that she's "extinct," Saturn had better have a similarly 4-doored SOMEthing several years down the line when it's time to start thinking "new one."

Haven't you heard? "Gay" has a new meaning nowadays and it doesn't have anything to do with sexual orientation, it now means "dumb", "stupid", "ridiculous", etc.

I think the Ion had Ugly Duckling syndrome. The older models had more Road noise, The absolutely ugly-stick-beaten front bumper, and the quirks that would hamper any brand new vehicle.

By 2006 all of these were gone. And yet many of the reviews of even the later model years on many sites were rehashes of the original model year. No mention of the improvements.

It's certainly not a perfect car, and even though my Ion was my First car it doesn't have the charm of my SC2... It's a good, reliable vehicle... and I think that's what Saturn wanted with it.

have an 03 and 06, both very good cars, as with any machine, need to get the kinks out, as for the center pod, I still don't know why the rest of the cars dont' come this way, makes way more sense for me to be able to look at them there then to have to look under my arm for them. took a look at the civic before buying, nice car but not for the 3 grand more that they were asking.

And the ION takes all the guff for having a cyclops dashboard while Civic has one of the ugliest instrument panels ever devised and gets nothing.

I have driven several grades of ION as rentals and they have all felt different: My 1: feels light and comfortable the 2, muted and more connected to the road and the 3 like a small luxury car that feels like a big one with precise handling and the feel of something 1000 lbs heavier.

These are good cars but the haters did what they do best when it comes to GM/Saturn vehicles.

It also kills me that Saturn never promoted the fact that the 2.2 ION was a PZEV 2006-2007 [partial zero emissions] engine[at least in CA and other states]:cleaner than 97% of other new cars offered and cleaner in some driving instances than a hybrid. And made it standard across the US. Especially when GM is attempting to get "Green" credibility with it's vehicles, that would have been a selling point for some and good PR. Ford presses it's advantage with the Focus, yet GM only does it's hybrid # and E85 tricks on gigantic trucks and full size cars. [And yes I already KNOW that larger cars get better comparative gains with this tech than smaller ones would, but we're talking about the ION here and what might have benefited it's image in the press and also made it more salable].

I love mine and am always happy to get back to it once the 95's tour of duty is over every two weeks.

I think by some messed up law, PZEV's can only be sold in six states.

"That is, unless you live in California, New York or six other northeast states that follow California's tougher pollution rules. Only there can you buy this Accord, or the roughly two dozen other models that meet so-called Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standards, PZEV for short."

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...umentid=434502

Luckily I live in the second most polluted city in the coutry and I can get one. :P PZEV is only good for clreaning smog related pollutants though. I think they still produce the same amount of CO2 that a regularly equipped car would. So it wont stop global warming, but it lets us breath a little cleaner.
