Default Need to disable the alarm!!!

OK. I have just spent 20 minutes looking through the forums for a solution to a common Saturn problem. Many postings on this problem but no satisfactory solution. Saturn fobs always sets/clears the alarm but for some insane reason the key does not set or clear the alarm (all the other cars that I drive have the key toggle the alarm). When two different people use the car and one driver loves the fob and the other driver (me) hates fobs ... when the fob driver set the alarm then the key driver (me) unlocks the door, the alarm goes off. I am requesting a method of totally disabling the alarm.
Also, do you know how to disable the running lights?
Bob

Learn to love the fob.

Seriously, what sense does it make to have the key clear the alarm? Are they coded? If that's the case, ok, but if it's just a matter of turning the lock somehow...that can be done without a key.

Learn to love the fob.

Will make a difference also what year your car is!

2nd gen fobs are programable by the user, 3rd gen must be done by the dealer.

For 2nd gen look in the How-To Library for a post by wolfman with the procedures.

Does anyone understand what Uzzy said? I would think that most people would love for the key to clear the alarm rather than to have the alarm go off. In the postings that I have found on this forum, not one person said that they enjoyed the alarm blaring when they used their key to unlock the car. Since I carry keys for five cars plus my house key in my pocket it makes absolutely no sense to add three fobs to that same key ring. Maybe Uzzy only has one car or uses a purse to transport the keys. By coded key does Uzzy mean an expensive, chip embeded into the key like my 2000 maxima? Those chip keys cost around $80-$100 US. By the way the sr20dev web site shows how to eliminate the need for the chip keys. Not sure what Izzy means by just a matter of turning the lock somehow... that can be done without a key? I am not trying to give Uzzy a hard time. I do not like fobs and have no use for alarms that blare at the wrong time, while it appears Uzzy has the opposit opinion, and that is ok with me. I just, honestly, do not understand what Uzzy is trying to say. My initial solution was to discard the fob, but my daughter that also uses this car likes to use the fob (I think she things of it as a toy).

What I'm saying is if all it takes to disarm the alarm is a key to turn the lock, I can disarm your alarm and steal everything in your car and possibly car included fairly easily. Any aftermarket alarm is not dis-armed by simply unlocking the door. And a lot more cars than simply the Nissan had coded keys, I believe GM started with it, but it was for the ignition only. And there is a way to disarm the alarm before the alarm begins beeping the horn, turn the key in the ignition within a few seconds of opening the door. I had to do it at school when I parked around certain buildings due to RF interference sometimes rendering my fob in operable. Now, next time you walk up to your car, take the key fob out yer arse and press the damn button! Or be quick about getting the engine running.

As stated befor the procedures are in the how to library. I just programed mine today. I disabled the alarm but everything else is functionable. If I have to go to a place where I may need the alarm then I can reprogram it very easily.

Here's what worked for me (2007 Saturn Relay, the passenger side sliding door alarm was driving me crazy):

Open the little plastic panel that conceals your jack in the rear of the vehicle (passenger side). You'll see several plugs inside that compartment, each of which has numerous wires coming out of them. On my vehicle, just in front of the jack, there were two plugs: the one on top is grey, the one on the bottom is green. Unplug the top grey one by pushing in the little indentation on the side of the plug that allows the plug to release, and pull it out.

Remember to make your automatic sliding doors work manually by pushing in the button for manual operation on the overhead panel (that controls the rear sliding doors, center overhead console).

That's it. Nothing to it. My dealer was going to charge me $200 for that, but by experimenting with various plugs, corrosion block, etc. I finally found the answer.

Live long and prosper.

Not as crazy as reviving a necro-thread for a Relay post on the S-Series Tech Forum makes me...
