Yeah! That's awesome news!

I heard it at work today...

It's a fantastic car, it should do real well in Canada. Especially since Canadians are very euro inspired

really, I just think you would want a more widespread distribution and experience with the car before you vote on it.

Best at being under powered?
Best at not having a sedan in the line up?
Best at not having a wagon in the lineup?
Best at having a 24hr only clock?

Just what is it best at?

Oh SNAP! hahaha

I think the Astra is fine the way it is. Who needs a sedan or wagon when you can get one car that is both? Underpowered? I guess the Ion, Civic, Corolla and Mazda3 (2.0) are all underpowered as well. And, if you can't figure out what time it is by subtracting 12, should you really be driving? What a wah-wah.

And what do those cars all offer? Bigger engine selections! But why would one do that when they can just give one engine. Honestly, most people would opt for the smaller engine anyways, but it is the fact that if people want more power, they can get it.

I don't really care about the clock but once again, some people do. In your next post you say people are complaining just because they don't want to think. Personally, I think people aren't thinking for just saying "this is a great car, it doesn't matter that YOU don't like certain features." Why would one buy a car if there are things about it that bother them? You may like the car, others will not. It is a fact of life but don't try to be condescending by telling people to forget about the features they don't like and just live with it. You didn't use those exact words but that is how it came across.

Overall I feel a large majority of North America is extremely happy the Astra is here, especially with it's European flavor intact. Once it's established they'll most likely enhance the powertrains and interior quirks.

Thats two more things that some might want. I don't care about the clock because I know without thinking what time 17:34 is, but my wife has no idea. I don't care about the MP3 plug in, but my wife will. Again XM radio does nothing for me at all but my wife loves hers. Both my wife and I would have loved to see the wagon make it the north America, some would never buy a wagon. I've had 3 SW2's so having a wagon it not an idea someone other thought up. I like sedans over hatch backs and that has nothing to do with what someone else might like. This underpowered car may fit your wants but have nothing to do with what I'd like to have seen. The perfect Astra for me would have been a 2.0L 260hp turbo wagon, with the same setup on a sedan. I would have settled for a 2.4L option. But because they are hatchbacks, and have no engine option I'll not be buying. My wife on the other hand may settle for a 5door XR.

So I ask again, what is it best at?

Default Re: Saturn Astra - Best New Small Car

To me, i have been lusting after the opel astra for years. I for one am so glad that GM/Saturn is bringing the Astra to the US. Yes we don't get as many engine and color choices as other markets get. To me thats no big deal. It as many have said a stop gap product. Again to me no big deal. As long as i can get a silver 2 door XR with 5 speed. I don't care about a sunroof or leather or many other options as long as it has a/c its fine. So whats good for one might not be for others. It gets Saturn back in the small car market. I for one love hatchback cars. I love the versatility that it offers. so you may ask what is the Astra good at? To me alot. and i can't wait to get one. thats my two cents worth.

If you don't mind the styling (and for many the "if" is the key word) the Chevy HHR SS is right up your alley.
