Default Roof Leak!! Roof Rack the culprit?

We have water dripping out of the 3rd row seat's left side ceiling light! Not good - especially since we live in Seattle!

I haven't used the roof rack at all. I suspect is probably related to roof rack. Anyone have a similar issue?

I'm taking in the Outlook to the service department on Monday....

It appears that I have a leak somewhere near the rear passenger side pillar or from the liftgate. Mine is going in the shop as well on Monday (the only day the water specialist is at the dealership). I will post my findings.

After a week in the shop, the leak in my Outlook was diagnosed as coming from the rear sunroof drain lines. The lines were extended, the carpet completey dried and all is well.
I usually garage my Outlook and noticed the leak one morning because I had left it outside. After sitting overnight during a couple of soaking rain episodes the passenger side carpet was wet.
I live north of Seattle and have had my Outlook outside overnight since the repair and the leak has been banished.

The bulletin they referenced was 2009399.

Wrench Re: Roof Leak!! Roof Rack the culprit?

We recently had a similar issue after some rain last week or the week before. My wife started to back out of the driveway and a tidal wave of water washed down from the roof liner along the windshield onto the dash, and down the A and B pillars. Soaked the heck out of the front seat rugs.

The dealer diagnosed it as clogged sun roof drain lines. I guess they were jammed with pine needles, and it sounded like all of them were blocked completely. I don't know if we left the sun roof cracked on a windy afternoon or what. We do have a pine tree in our back yard, and you can find pine needles in our driveway - but nothing in the interior of the car. Anyone know how large these lines are?

My water leak was also diagnosed as a faulty drain line for the rear sun roof.

Well, I guess the first repair didn't take!

My Outlook is back in the shop with another water leak. This time the water is leaking from the courtesy lights and the LED for the backup sensor.
The covers for the lights are all filled with water. Its a wonder they still work! I imagine the headliner has to have water damage at this point.

Like many on this thread, I normally keep my vehicle in a garage. Unfortunately my tool shed at the side of the house needs to be replaced so all of that equipment is now sitting in my space in the garage. I probably would have discovered this leak sooner.

I have asked the dealership to not only fix the water leak but to inspect and replace any parts in the headliner. Hopefully they can get it right this time.

I had my Outlook back in the shop a week or so ago because of more leaking. They said they rerouted some of the drain lines to improve the flow, and it seems to have done the trick - rain, ice, and snow here in MA and no signs of leaking.

I was reading some other message boards and it seemed the Acadia had a good deal of issues with leaking sunroofs, among other things like leaking windshields and door gaskets.

My headliner really got stained this time around - the retailer has a new one on order.

when I was shopping for my Outlook, I wanted to get the 2007 MY, for the 0% APR offer, so I test drove the last XR they had on the lot...2 minutes into the drive and water was pouring from the Driver's side A Pillar. Seems like an issue with the 07's. At the same time, I head some weird power lock clicking noises...Needless to say I didn't buy it. It also turned me off from the dealer...I should have stuck with that dealer, the one I went with are terrible (Saturn of Harlem in NYC).

Well the dealership is telling me that the problem is the rear sunroof (again). They have order a new glass. I have asked them to inspect the headliner and electronics for damage.

Dizzy Re: Roof Leak!! Roof Rack the culprit?

Greetings,

Got my XR in late September. I've had my Outlook into the dealer 4 times with water leaks. These leaks were determined to come from the moon roof drains. These drains run each side of the car. The Dealer fixed only one side the first vist, the other side the second visit. On my third visit they sealed other holes allowing water into the drivers side floor board by my left foot.

Got it back today after 4 days in the shop. They did more sealing, drying out the headliner and conducting numerous water tests from different angles. Not raining today here in Oregon, but I'll be very attentive to see if I can find wet spots when it begins raining again.
Mechanic told me GM recently issued a tech bulletin on the moon roof drains.

Now I'm worried about mold and or mildew.

This demonstrates yet again why I never get a sun roof. If it isn't one thing, it's another. They simply aren't worth the trouble you inevitably run into.

I dunno... I had a 96 SL2 with a sunroof, and it didn't leak or break or not close in the 8 years I had it. I'm pretty sure when I eventually get an Aura it'll have a sunroof, even with the issues I've had so far with my Outlook. Of course, that may change if I find out my Outlook's sunroof is not a pane of glass, but a sieve.

Agreed. I have three cars with sunroofs, including an Outlook, and none have ever leaked no matter what the weather. I've never seen a leaky sunroof.

We had not had any significant rain in Amarillo since I got my 07 back in June, and I had not had a problem while washing mine. Last week we had rain and mine started leaking down the drivers side seat belt, headliner and down into the emergency brake housing (flooding the floor board).

Dealer told me they were aware of the problem but that GM did not want to issue a recall since it may not effect everyone. Problem was that the drain tube on the moonroof was not connected, infact it was two inches short (they new this in production?). Dealer got in the fix kit, and did the work in one day. To dry out my truck the ran the engine (how long I don't know but it changed the MPG avg reading by 2) and ran the heat in the truck at 90 degrees.

I went to wash mine yesterday, and foud that it was leaking again over the drivers side. I be taking it in again.

Well, I just got my Outlook back last night. New glass and fresh smell of rubber sealant. Lets hope this holds up. This is my second sunroof ('99 Chrysler 300M) and my first problem with leaks. I always figured aftermarket sunroofs would be more problematic than factory installed roofs.

The Acadia Forum has many posts about water leaks. Looks to be a serious problem accross the Lambda family. Several postings match the same leaking problems that I have had with my Outlook. Many Acadia owners are asking for GM buy outs.
It seems that the 08 models have leaks too.

Looks like my sunroof really is a sieve - leaking again! So this is trip #3 to fix it. The retailer's reaction when I called was telling - they cringed when I called (they know me by name now). With Christmas coming I won't be dropping it off until Wednesday now. Let's hope the rain we're getting in MA tonight won't leave a puddle.

I was considering my options as well, since lemon laws in MA state that they have three tries to fix the problem. We have a young child, and mold is always a concern. With the inside being wet for so long... luckily it's been cold.

Hi Eric,

I also get to go to the dealer again on Wednesday, to try and fix leaks for the sixth time. Each time the leaking get less and less. Last time in, they had my Outlook for 4 days. I could smell caulking compound or something like it when I picked it up last week.

If not fixed this time, I'll talk with the dealership to find out my options for a GM buy back.

Thats a total drag, there must be somthing else that they are missing and atleast its sounds like your being civil and it sounds like maybe they are not. I wonder just how much time they are actually spending on it each time to resolve the issue and/or if it is the same person working on it. Is your headliner trashed or anything else? You might want to take a look in there Wednesday if they take the headliner out and see what you can see, atleast you'll know what it looks like under the headliner and you may see something they dont. Just a thought.
