Question LW200 Ambient Temp Sensor

I have a LW200 2003 that was involved in frontend collision. I have it all back together except for the ambient temperature sensor that fits into the front bumper. Sensor was still there but the two connecting wires had been cut. There are no connectors going into the sensor. My questions: What is the function of the sensor? Will AC work without it? Will it matter which side of the sensor wires are plugged into? One more question. Does the BCM control the AC operation; specifically will BCM from a non climate control car fit into my vehicle with climate control system with no problems? Thanks for any help you can give me.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!
