My brand new '07 ION.3 Sedan has a rattling noise that seems to come from the rear passenger door at 40 - 45 mph.
I have eliminated the typical "wind reverberation" or whatever you call it, that shuddering noise when the window is down. Thats NOT it. This happens with the windows up and it's a definitive rattling noise. Any ideas what could be causing this? My mechanic says "it's normal" I say no, as I can hop into any ION on the lot and only 1 out of 20 may make this sound. The rattle sound only happens at between 40 and 45 mph. Does anyone have a clue what may be loose, broken or bad? TIA marx404

My RL Coupe rear passenger (half) door rattles a little too.
Don't know what it is though & never bothered to take it to the dealer either. It's a cheap car....it's gonna rattle....sorry to say that man ... 2009 VW GTI FRO: 2007 Ion REDLINE -- 8/06-3/08 2008 Aura XR -- 3/08-8/08

I have said it before and I will say it again: the ION is clipped and bolted together...some of them are bound to get loose...just ask SaturnSdn...he's got a few loose himself.
My advice: just invest in some better audio components and the squeaks and rattles will soon be a thing of the past... ... hundred miles an hour switching lanes like WHOA

I noticed a bit of a rattly sound coming from upper drivers side window area of my ion. It turned out to be trim noise from the rear drivers door and went away when I lubed the trim and areas the trim rubbed with silicone.

This is not the typical saturn rattling or clatter, it can get pretty loud, loud enough that one wonders if the door will come loose.
snobrdn, there IS a TSB on your QC on the rear door rattle, it is the door bolts or something. The same does not apply to the sedan. D.C., good suggestion, I will have the trim checked out. marx404 Last edited by marx404; 08-07-2007 at 07:15 AM..

As always Ottumwawa the pretender, pozer. Ok here is the deal..............you have a rattle. We can't hear is from where we sit. You find it and fix it or take it to the dealer and have them do it under warranty. That door as every door on every car has alot of moving parts I don't think anyone can tell you for certain what the rattle is.

hey guys out there with a sedan most of the time the issue is there are black molding on the upper back of front doors and upper front of back doors each one has screws on the back once you open the door and most of the time those screws come loose. All you need to do is simply tighten it up. this was the issue with mine and my sisters.... it fixed ours and hopefully it fixes yours

Resolved! It WAS the rear pass door applique, the adhesive underneath had given and the applique was rattling.
