IMO none of the new models from Saturn have yet taken off. What vehicle do you feel will save Saturn?

I want to say the Astra in spite of the fact supplies will be limited. If GM can move all the stock they bring over from Europe short-term, it will make a strong case for production here (or Mexico). It depends on how much of the Opel goodness is carried over once Astra arrives stateside.

The 2009 Accord sized, polymer bodied, rear drive, made-in-the-USA, turbodiesel sedan with a high quality interior ought to do it.

The Outlook, without a doubt, can single handedly save Saturn.

The Outlook and Acadia both are flying off the lots. We can't keep hold of them. We're having to order and dealer trade a lot because customers want them but our supplies are limited right now as far as option combos. They're amazing vehicles - huge on the inside, but small on the outside. The price is perfect. And the value for money is second to none.

I'd say it'll be followed by the Aura, which is slowly starting to get noticed outside of Saturn's current owners. We're attracting more and more customers from outside GM to look at, and buy, the Aura. Most people are shocked once they see the price and realize it's the best value on the market right now.

I don't think the Astra will take off. I think it's priced a little too high for the segment, because a lot of people in compacts shop more on price-point than styling. But it will have it's niche.

I don't believe any one of these models will individually save Saturn but I believe that collectively they have a chance of saving the brand if they prove to be reliable, perform well, and most importantly hold their value. Saturn is clearly trying to change its customer base to a more affluent group of buyers. Initially I feel sales numbers will not be very high but if the new buyers become as satisifed with the vehicles themselves as traditional Saturn buyers were satisfied with their treatment I believe there is a strong chance sales figures can grow in the future if the word is properly spread. I've watched as brands like Volvo and Mazda have grown from their initial niches of devoted followers. If Saturn deliveres a range of quality products that justify the higher prices, there is no reason that the brand cannot succeed in a new market position.

I didn't realize Saturn needed to be saved...but I picked Astra as well. The focus (no pun intended) these days for small cars is to be highly stylish, functional and entertaining to drive. The Astra, by all articles I've seen, has that in spades. Hey, a car that outsells the Golf, the Civic and the Corolla in Europe can't be that bad.

Bingo! There isn't one vehicle that any company can pin "success" on. You need a range of good products.

Me neither.

I would not lay all bets on the Astra, its too limitted. they are replacing a 4 door sedan and a coupe with a three door and 5 door hatchbacks. Where is the coupe and sedan models? Some people just don't like hatchbacks (1980's anyone?). I can't fathom why there isn't plans for a sedan and coupe model.

Try telling that to Ford. Right now the Mustang is the only thing it has going for it in the car line, and the F-150 has always been a rock solid seller. But then again, that would explain why Ford is in the s***ter.

Ford hardly qualifies as a "success" story. You'll notice that companies (not just domestic) that have a few standouts among mediocre products are "in the s***ter" at the moment.

I also agree that not one car will single handedly lead saturn, but I'm putting some money on the Vue. Seems people are moving over to the cute sport ute with slightly better gas mileage, but similar cargo/functional usage.

I agree to an extent. The fact that there is no Coupe or Sedan is going to hurt sales for shure unless they decide to bring those models over too after say the first year. Also take the fact that Europe probably isnt stuck in this rut of thinking Japanese cars are better than their cars no matter what they are told. They seem more loyal to the European brands there than we are of American.

And from what I've seen of the concept they had for the '08 ION, I do think it would have done much better for sales.

I don't have a clue as to what game GM is playing, but it is obvious to a duck that the ASTRA must and will be SATURN'S volume vehicle. All the talk about limited sales for the Astra, even less than the ION, are pure grade A balony. To be sure, Saturn would prefer to have the Aura fill that "volume" spot and with time, the Aura can be Saturn's sales leader.

It will take time for Saturn to establish itself as a serious player in the mid-size, sports sedan market because we are so well established as an entry level, compact econobox. There has to be a bridge and the Astra is it. The VUE and OUTLOOK will do a fine job in building a strong high quality vehicle manufacturer reputation for Saturn. But for now, the Astra is the great hope.

Surely you jest... I figured I'd post it before Hokie did. I'd be all over a Passat sized car with polymer panels and VW's interior quality/fit and finish but it'd have to offer a TDI type motor with a six or seven speed automatic.
