I noticed when I was reading about the SPS cat-back system it says that additional installation effort is needed for 91'-92'. I emailed them about this twice, but have not got an answer back. Anyone know what this additional effort is needed for the 91 and 92 year Saturns?

ok i think i know this one. in 91-92 the back of the cat is round so it's welded to the exhaust at that point. in 93 they went to a flange thing with bolts so it bolts in place. you should be able to use it just weld it on there.

ya..thats what I thought it might be..I was hopin to do the work myself but im not sure I want to go through the trouble of welding it on there. I also dont really like the idea of having to cut it off if i ever take it off.

First I have to point out that I still have my original exhaust system from the catalytic converter and back on both of my Saturns. However, I plan on upgrading using the same parts with SPS exhaust stuff.
If I had a 1991 or 1992 Saturn and I were to buy one of the SPS cat back systems for my car, I'd cut the old system off several inches behind the catalytic converter and cut off the flange thing at the front end of the new piping (measure carefully!). Then I'd install it, clamp the new pipe to the catalytic converter, and drive to a muffler shop and get it welded together. With a 1993+ Saturn we have three bolts and nuts to take off, then we can install the SPS cat back system. Sounds easier than the cutting/welding for the 1991 - 1992 Saturn, right? Wrong. Those three bolts/nuts will be rusted together so well that they will be next to impossible to loosen and remove. With either the 1991-1992 Saturns or the 1993+ Saturns, it might make sense to let a muffler shop do it all. I am surprised that SPS has not responded to the e-mail. Maybe they are closed for the holiday? Wait until Monday or Tuesday. If they still have not replied, call them at (937) 296-1417 for advice. I've contacted them several times with both e-mail and the telephone; they are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
