Default Any ex-Saturn mechanics in Los Angeles?

Seems like a lot of the experts here are in the midwest or back east. So I am just curious if we have any ex-dealer mechanics or overall Saturn experts in the Los Angeles area that are still working on Saturns on the side. Is this is you, speak up!

I used to live in Fresno and am still there a lot, but I'm not an ex-tech. Not a lot of the active folks are in the LA area, it seems.

I see one flag on KDulcimer's map in San Diego.

There also seems to be a garage specializing in Saturns in Tucson (a bit of a drive, but out west at least). I've seen some other SoCal people here post from time to time.

Perhaps you can try a shout out in general to SoCal Saturnfans to see who on here replies (or maybe someone here knows of a SoCal user that they can "out" for you. Many people are dormant for a while on this site but pop back in from time to time -- and are still active in the Saturn game.

Did you know the name of any Saturn techs when Saturn was still in business. I actually found my favorite Saturn tech (who was a contributor to this site) through Facebook. He isn't working for a Saturn Authorized Service Provider (though is working at a GM dealership). I haven't asked him for any service yet, but it's nice to know how to get a hold of him.

I used to take my SC2 to Galpin Saturn and usually didn't know the techs there... I wish I did. Galpin worked pretty hard to keep their techs separate from the public and vice-versa. In hindsight, I should have tried some of the smaller dealerships. Galpin is absolutely massive, and pretty "clinical" in wrangling customers into special little areas away from the cars and mechanics. I never liked that - I want to see who is working on my car and what is being done - but they were extremely convenient location-wise, so I tolerated it.

My 98 SL2 was purchased at Galpin. I have heard it was the biggest dealership in the nation...

I really don't trust the Chevy dealer to do anything to my car, in all honesty.

Maybe I'll spend a few days hiking in Tuscon and my SC2 can visit you.

Keep in mind that being a former tech in itself isn't what is needed, but someone familiar with Saturns is. LowSaturn got out of the Saturn game but probably had more first hand dealers with Saturn than a lot of former techs. Just good for thought...

...not that spending time in AZ couldn't be fun.

I'm with you there. I've posted my experiences with so called Saturn Authorized Service Providers. It seems as though the techs did not receive extensive training in fixing Saturns, but rather received extensive training in how to convince Saturn owners to give up on their cars.

That would be cool, kind of like a west coast version of the
"Springhill homecoming event". I vote you in charge of organizing it though. To bad your far away in Boston.

I'm in SoCal.. Probably one of the most northerly So Cal peeps.. Never worked in a dealership, and has to almost be 25 yrs since leaving mechanics school.Of course there is more than enough reason for me to lurk here once in a while...

Lol.... hmmmm, I can certainly offer to help. It could be a good chance for you to get some recognition among Southwestern Saturn owners. I'm happy to assist in any way to help promote your business (though alas, it's a long way for me to go to get my cars serviced -- but who knows, perhaps you can branch out into the mail-order parts business as well).... A healthy parts and service business for our cars will help ensure a healthy future for us enthusiasts.

We had a small, but successful meetup here in Boston a few weeks ago as can be seen in this thread. I have ideas to try to expand on our success next year (and the five of us who did attend vowed to come back next year).

Is there an automotive event in Tucson that one could piggyback onto? It's good to have an attraction. Perhaps a tour of your facility could coincide with the event (coupons for service during the event or some other promotional idea).
