Default 95 SW2 shifting hard in Hawaii

My 1995 SW2 (automatic) with 168,000 miles here on Oahu shifts hard from 1-2 and also has loud "clunk" when placed into reverse. Also, "Check Engine Light" comes on after driving for 10 minutes. Engine code is 11 with transaxle code of 13 (line pressure high). It has been like this for seven months now and I'm afraid I may have driven it too long this way. Local transmission shops want $900 to rebuild the valve body and $1600-1800 to rebuild the whole tranny. Not sure what the best option is here, assuming the valve body is the problem. I changed the filter and fluid about 2000 miles ago and also did the "reverse slam" technique with Lucas additive for 30 minutes. . .that didn't help any.

Here are my questions:

1. If I can find another Saturn at a salvage yard, what other years' valve bodies are compatible with my 1995 transmission?

2. Does the valve body have to be an MP7 (performance) version like mine or will the MP6 valve body work?

3. Is it worth having the transmission rebuilt (if it needs it) or has the car reached the end of its life?

Thanks for the help,
