2008 VUE 3.6L
Default Vue XR Brake vibration

Hi! i haver a continous problem maybe you guys can help me, my Vue vibrates when braking, this happens only when braking in downhill at a speed between 80 and 100 Km/h so i suppose the trigger for vibration is heat, so the shop has "shaved" the rotors to make them straight again, but then after 1000 km's or so, the vibration appears again, already "shaved" the rotors 2 two times and always happen again, is the rotors the problem? or brake pads? Thanks!

Regards,

In reality, shaving rotors are only done as long as removing metal doesn't go below minimum thickness otherwise rotor structural integrity is compromised. All rotors are stamped with minimum thickness dimensions so a brake shop can read, measure and determine whether to machine or discard them. This is a safety issue. And machining rotors are usually done only when new brake pads are used. Machining rotors removes any undulations or ripples and returns both surfaces parallel to each other. New brake pads are then worn in to mate braking material to flat rotors. Reusing brake pads on machined rotors invites problems as the rotors wear unevenly along with brake pads. Worn rotors may wear and create a taper from inner to outer diameter. Worn brake pads may have the same taper. If old pads are used on machined rotors, the tapered pads may only touch part of the rotor with less braking force and feel as if brakes aren't working.

Machining rotors are always accompanied with new brake pads since new pads are flat and should wear in quickly with maximum surface material contacting machined rotor surfaces.

Hi fdryer thanks for your answers, last time i shaves rotors and put new pads but same results, i have noticed one of the front rotors is blackish like pad material transfered to the rotor but he other rotor in the front is silver with a very light black color, this means something?

Thanks

Personally, I have never seen black tinted rotors from brake pad material transferring. Maybe this coloring is a hint of incorrect brake pads? Or incorrect rotors?

When googling images of damaged rotors, discolored rotors are usually from overheating - applying brakes too long (steep mountain roads, racing), using machined rotors below minimum thickness. Blue/black from overheated brakes. Rust is orange colored. Examine rotors carefully to determine if they overheated.

BTW (by the way), are you familiar with Vues having front brake hoses choke at the hose
hanger/clamp on struts? For whatever reason, the two flexible brake hoses on front disc brakes strangle each hose at the clamp, holding brake pressure, failing to release brakes completely. From dragging brakes (residual brake pressure) to extremely overheated brakes with very hot wheels too hot to touch. Replacing calipers and brakes didn't fix the problem. A member found out, replaced both front flexible hoses and cut sliced open hoses to reveal the strangled area. Pictures are in his thread if you search for it. Either examine both front hoses and make a temporary/permanent repair by wedging a screwdriver blade to separate the clamped end a little and see if brakes stop discoloring.

Thanks for the tip fdryer! I will check the front hoses issue.
