Default SC1 Electrical Issue

Hello!

I have a 2002 SC1 manual with about 90k miles on it.

It won't start, it won't even turn over. We tried jumping it, but this had no affect on the car. We bought a new battery, but it still won't turn over.

The car is also doing 2 weird things:

1. I realized that if I put in the key and turn it to the on position, the instrument panel lights up, radio works, power windows and locks work. But if I press the brake, the instrument panel and radio and everything goes out until I release the brake! (Once I release the brake everything comes back on)

2. If I turn the headlight switch to the on position, the instrument panel and everything goes out again, EXCEPT for the 2 turn indicators, which both light up and stay lit solid (but the headlights won't actually work).

I have tried looking for this issue online, but I haven't been able to find anything that sounded similar. Does anyone know what this could be?

Thank you!

Default Re: SC1 Electrical Issue

While replacing a car battery may solve one problem, it didn't fix this one. What you're describing seems to be all about POWER and how its distributed. The battery is the power source and the battery cables distribute power. If one or both battery cables are severely corroded and/or loosely connected, there may be questionable power distribution. Both battery cables need to be examined closely, including their connections to the starter, fuse box and engine/chassis grounds. Failure to examine the basic connections can bite you in the wallet if parts are thrown at the problem that weren't needed.
