Default Saturns run the Tail of the Dragon VIDEO - from 7/31/04

I now have the Tail of the Dragon video on my computer! This is the video from our unofficial Homecoming last year where 7 of us Saturns took on the Tail of the Dragon.

The video is 38 minutes long and 432 mbs.

Unfortunately, my webserver isn't cooperating with me in the slightest, so if someone wants to host it for me...? If not, I should be able to get it up in the next day or so.

But I just wanted to let everyone know that I do have it on the computer now. I don't really want to send it via email because it will take approx. 1.5 hours for me to upload it. It's probably a 30-45 minute download if you're on a cable modem. A lot of people keep asking me about it, so I finally got off my lazy butt and moved it.

How much would you charge to burn it to a DVD and mail it to people who request it?

Kat, I could try hosting it. Not sure how fast GMtuner is but its worth a try. Hit me up on AIM later. One more delivery at 12 and then I should be free.

Sorry for the forever long wait everyone! I wanted my ftp server to cooperate with me so I didn't have to leach off someone else.

The video is located at:
http://www.redlineion.com/meet/tailofthedragon.wmv

If someone wants to set up a mirror download spot, I'd much appreciate it, so my poor server doesn't get hammered to death!

Fair warning - the file is 498 megs, so it'll take at least an hour even on cable. Dial up users may want to think twice about downloading it unless you want to set it to go overnight.

geartooth and spencer - do you want to download it from my server, or still want me to email it to you and are you still willing to burn copies for people for a certain fee? I'd rather have you download it personally, because I'd have to reupload it to send it (which takes about 2.5 hours), but it's up to you.

I recorded it to the computer off of a VCR tape (because I couldn't transfer it straight from the camera via the USB cable due to the fact it would take 10 hours and would decrease the quality obscenely) so it's got a couple spots where the sound or video will seem jumpy, but it's not too bad. Ignore the blue screen and word 'play' in the upper left corner at the beginning.

You should compress it a lot more than that so people can download it. You might want to use DivX if you have any good editing software that can work with it. It would be a lot smaller.

Nice video though

I downloaded it in about 25 minutes on my cable connection. Thanks, Kat!

I really like the closing minutes, where all you can hear is the forest sounds and the V6. It would be a nice soundtrack to play while going to sleep, if not for the radio chatter...

Why thank you! That's my V6

and pay no attention to the VUE rollovers that occured a couple of times on the tape. I think perhaps this video is why CR, and so many others seem to think the VUE can roll over easy.

I don't have any video editors other than Windows Movie Maker, and WMM takes FOREVER to save even a 5 minute long video ... I hate to think how long it'd take to save 40 minutes worth... considering Andy got it in 25 minutes over cable, it shouldn't be too horribly bad. For anyone that doesn't want to download it, there have been several people that have offered to burn it to a DVD for a small fee.

Ack.

I'm almost at my file size limit on my webserver ... this video took up about 90% of it. Does anyone else have a webserver with more space that could host it so I can clear off some space?

Spazie, I've mirrored your video. It's available here:
http://voo.sunmine.net/media/tailofthedragon.wmv

I have a crapload of disk space, but not unlimited bandwidth. If people download it like mad I'll have to cut it off, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I too think it would be cool to upload it to Google Video.

Thanks for the mirror, silvervoo. I'll keep it up on my webserver for a little longer, but I may pull it down if we can get one more mirror up.

You can't view Google videos yet - they're still in the upload-only stage. Once they've got it working all the way, I'll probably put it on there, but because it's a large file, I'm afraid they may charge people to download it due to it's size.

Thank you Spazie for sharing the video! It took about 30-40 min for me to download on my cable modem.

The video brought back some memories, that was fun ride. I'd like to do it again, but it's pretty far to travel and time and money might not be on my side come this summer.

It was nice and steady til the car rolled over... I mean, uh... camera fell over...

I hope to run it this next time around with a better camera mount.
