Mad Replacing SL1 ECU

I was wondering if anybody could help me out. Is paying $900 to much to pay at the dealership to have them replace the ECU which is not even fully guraneted to fix the problem with my car. How hard would it be to buy an ECU and install it myself? Or is it probably beter to just buy a new car. Ive spent about $3000 on my car in the last month, and its not even worth that much. Its a 97 SL1 with 106,000 miles on it. So is it better to fix this problem or to just go buy a new car?

That sounds like the ECTS and Thermostat problem, NOT the PCM. *by the way, do NOT EVER go to that dealer ship again, they know nothing*
What is the other $3000 you spent on?

Check here to look for how-to to change both item. They cost less than $40, if you change them yourself.

I've worked for Saturn for over 10 years now and replaced maybe
5 ECU's. I would do a fuel pressure test on it first (especially a 97) even the new pumps were bad out of the box in 97! it sounds more like a IAC motor or ECT could be causing this.
What codes are you getting?

Second that - bad PCM's on Saturn S-series are like hen's teeth - rare.

If it hasn't been changed, change the ECTS, and check the fuel pressure after a 8hour shut-down. The 97's were notorious for bad pumps, though the typical symptom is extended crank when starting.
