Default 2003 3.0 p0700; p2119; p1780

Greetings,

2003 3.0 FWD, 205000 miles, owned since new.

The past month I've been having random P0700, P2119; P1780 vaults. The P1780 seems to also coincide with the car going into reduced power mode (like I would expect). I have also had another P code that involves the pedal position sensor but I don't have those notes with me right now.

The pedal position sensor and throttle position sensor are new as of last week. I've opened and cleaned the 40 pin connector inside by the divers right foot. No issues observed. The intake manifold has come off recently for spark plug replacement. That might have stressed out the wiring harness.

After the last fit of codes I attempted to do the throttle position learn procedure when I got home. No luck. It did seem to take after the 30 minute battery disconnect. I know it did it for sure last Saturday after the parts replacement.

The one common thing that makes the car normal for a few days is disconnecting the battery for 20 or more minutes. It will then be normal with no codes and then have a fit in about four days, usually at start up but there was one time when being driven.

I'm thinking I'll have to take a deep dive into the wiring and ground points to see if there is something intermittent. A replacement PCM is also a consideration.

Question: Am I missing anything here? I probably shouldn't be spending this much time trying to fix a car with over 200,000 miles and just buy newer, but now I'm obsessed.

An update:

I've been doing some thinking about the all the corrective and preventative maintenance that has been done over the last six months the one connector that was taken off the most was the throttle body connector. And I also realized that the one common thing I did in an attempt to get the car running was removing and reconnecting that item. It would be fine for about three days and then go wonky.

I also took a deep dive into the TSBs issued for the car and discovered that it never had the service recommended by TSB 03-06-04-043 from 1 Sept 2003. Turns out that I had already accomplished two thirds of the TSB last Friday morning after I 1st posted about this problem. The last item that hasn't been accomplished is the connector replacement.

Drove the car about 150 miles over the last few days, runs fine with no codes and all the emission readiness monitors are set as complete. I'll try to use this car as my daily commuter as much as possible for this coming week and see what happens.

If I make it to next weekend without any problems I might try to cause the problem by removing the zip tie holding the connector wiring bundle in place and wiggling it around a bit.

Will close out this thread next weekend with my results.

Closing thread post.

The car has been trouble free since the last post. Two weeks and 300 miles now. I didn't remove the zip-tie from the servo-motor electrical plug wiring and wiggle it around to see if it would fail. After discussing it with the wife (it's her car) she said it's working, leave it alone.

I feel pretty confident about the final fix but I guess I'll never really know.

It was probably a terminal tightness issue with that connector. Back in the day when we had to pull intake manifolds on Vue 3.0 engines to replace defective thermostats, I would leave that connector hooked up and not even try to unplug it. It seems as though the terminal fitment is a bit finnicky. I've never been a fan of electronic throttles, more trouble than they are worth. If you choose to replace that connector, back in the day they would give us the hard shell plastic connector and the wire pigtails with the terminals already crimped on. I have no idea what the cost was though.

Rockauto has a new connector with pigtail for about $80. That was going to be my next step in the process if it started to act up again. No returning issues as of this post so I haven't put one on order.
