2008 Astra XR
2001 SC2
Question Struts and shocks

Hello everybody,

As stated in a previous post, I bought a 2008 Astra XR 3 doors, standard transmission. The car had some problems that i solved. Engine is running fine, but I still have to change those 2 rear coil springs that are broken. The OEM kit (2 rear coil springs) is over CAD$300 before taxes, so I decided to go with Eibach Pro Kit and change them all. I got a very nice deal for 200$! I can't wait to see how it handles with them.

I contacted Eibach concerning the struts and shocks. They told me that the Pro Kit was designed to work with OE spec struts and shocks, but advised me that it would be good to change them as my car has 95000 km (60k miles). I noticed that the easily lean a little bit on every movement (sudden acceleration or braking, or a simple corner turn at a very easy speed), and many other symptoms that the Eibach tech told me.

So now, I'm looking to buy new ones, but after searching for over a week, here and on European websites, it seems to be a little bit complicated to find those front struts, especially if I want to buy them in North America. Rear shocks seems more easy to find. There are Koni out there, Sasch, ACDelco, KYB, and more. That's because they are the same as the Cobalt, from what a dealer told me.

I found in this forum the following information (in bold, the part numbers I need) :

On RockAuto, I easily found the rear OEM shocks (#93178641). There are also ACDELCO 530456 {#19295558} which are much cheaper (35$ vs 89$) but I can't find any information about how they compare. There is also the KYB 349043 GR-2 / Excel-G which I heard good things about. I don't know what is the real difference between the OEM 93178641 and 93178640 are different, so I wonder if those aftermarket are more like the first or the second one. If anyone know more about this, your help is welcome.

But then, on RockAuto, they have only 1 type of ACDelco (left 93195924, right 93195925, 90$ each) which is not the same as the numbers in the quote. I have no idea what they are equivalent to. There is also Sasch 313480 and 313478 for 130$ each.

I guess I'm not the first to shop for new struts and shocks for the Astra here. What should I buy ? Is there any other brand / choice I should go with?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

How's the condition of your swaybar bushings and endlinks( assuming it has them)?

.. Great time to change them , as well, if needed.

I have no idea of their condition but I was advised to change them at the same time so I was planning on buying them. Maybe urethane bushing could improve things a little bit.

I went to a offroad truck shop-4wheel Parts- for generic "Energy Suspension"( many sizes to choose from with support clamp/strap and ZERK grease fittings).

I just matched them up to what my Vue has... YOur selection may vary
