Default Replaced rear driver bearing hub. Saturn Vue 2006

So I replaced the driver rear bearing hub. Everything went great on getting it off. No corrosion so as soon as the last bolt came off it just came right off. I had a jack holding the brake assembly. When I was reinstalling the bolts ,when I was torquing the first one. The Dayton socket cracked and I spun the socket over the end of the bolt and round the edges. I managed to get it off. But I want to replace it as well as the others. And I want to torque to spec. I read somewhere that the bolts are non reusable and should be replaced anyway. Does anyone have the GM part number for the four mounting bolts for the 2006 Saturn Vue FWD for the rear bearing hub. So I can source them out. Mario

Superflywimpy, I believe the correct torque spec on those (4) mounting bolts ....#18....... is 62 ft-lbs.

. WHere did you read they have to be replaced?

I have heard of that with axle nuts from certain vehicles, but these are the bearing mounting bolts you are referring to?

CAn you hammer on the spun socket to get the rounded bolt off?

I used short and deep sockets, 6 point sockets, as well as a 1" extension and a 3" wobble extensiion to be able to get my torque wrench in to do the same job, presently,,,,,,,,, wrapping it up after I replace a wheel cylinder and put back all the body work I removed to apply undercoating.

Thanks guys for the fast response. I did manage to get the bolt off and I filed it flat where the rounded edges were and I re installed it with a ratchet driver. As far as where I read where it said where the bolts are non reuseable I can't remember where, but the diagram of the rear wheel hub assembly showed the hub and the four bolts. And the four bolts had parenthesis next to the bolts with diamond marks and at the bottom of the diagram the parenthesis had the words non reusable parts with the diamond mark in the wording. I plan to change out the font bearing assemblies as well and have two new spindle nuts I ordered. As I know these for sure have to be changed out when removed. There were 7 bucks each on Ebay. As far as the torque value being 63 ft pounds I want to make sure that this does not happen again do I ordered a impact 13mm socket since it will be much harder than that POS Dayton socket I used. I'll keep you posted on how it worked out.

I've replaced several front and rear hub assy's and have always reused the bolts and nuts. Good luck doing the fronts. Start spraying the PB Blaster asap. The nuts are 33mm - torque 151 ft. lbs.

Chuck ... OMG - 33mm and 151 ft. lbs. You must be thinking of wheel drive shaft spindle nut socket and torque.

According to FSM the front hubs require new bolts - rear hubs don't.

I imagine different torque values account for reuse of hardware.

Front hub bolts get 96 ft-lbs and rears get 62 fl-lbs (previously listed by billysvue).

Here are a few extracts re hardware reuse and torque - OP said 2006 Vue so I looked there - but also confirmed same statements and torque for 02-07 Vue.

I was indeed referring to the spindle nut.

Geezus - I have at least 3 front hubs with re-used bolts!

Probably due to the different number of bolts.

Ok, I ordered the bolts from GM and they came today. I removed the two that were rounded off and installed the two new ones and torqued them all to 62 pounds. But I have to say I was scared because it seemed like my torque wrench was never going to hit the mark and click. But they did and now I have peace of mind. I want to thank all you Gentlemen for all your great advise. This was my third Saturn. I bought a 93 SL1 new, 2001 Sl2 and this 2006 Saturn Vue v6 FWD. I was so bummed when they closed shop. I think they were pretty cool cars for the money. I always had great luck with them. Thanks again and Merry Christmas. Mario

Yes - it was a definite bummer when GM threw Saturn under the bus!
Fortunately we still have Saturnfans for support.

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I have a question. I have a 2006 Vue, FWD and am replacing my rear hub assemblies this weekend. Is there a spindle nut on the rear? I am thinking that since I have a fwd as opposed to awd there shouldn't be a spindle am I correct?

You are correct: no spindle nut on the FWD rear hub. I have found that (even in salt encrusted upstate NY) that renting a slide hammer from Autozone is the ticket for getting the rear hubs out. Just make sure that you leave the mounting bolts loosely installed so that the whole brake assembly doesn't come flying out when you (slide) hammer it.

Just got done doing the rear hubs on my 08 VUE XR AWD. It's axle nuts were 36mm. It blows my mind the varied reports on the sizing of these nuts.

It's 29mm on years '02-07. Major design change in '08.

That's true. I guess I figured more of the guts would have been carried over. 29 --> 36 is a big increase.

In any case, perhaps my report specifying year and model will be of use to someone.

Cheers :-)
