Default 96 head on an 01 block

I'm prepping an engine for my 1996 Saturn SL. It is a SOHC out of a 2001 SL1.

My question is, can I leave the 2001 block as is, with the pistons, crank, etc., basically all of the internals, and put a 1996 head on it? If I do this, can I use the timing chain for a 1996?

Thanks!

I could be mistaken, but I thought I had read that mid-99 to 02 used a narrower head than earlier engines.

Dunno what's different but rockauto.com has 2 different Cloyes part numbers for '96 and '01 SOHC's.
The '96 set works '95-'98. The '01 set works '99-'01.

Wait, I dunno WTF is going on but checking for '94 has only a CLEVITE set that works either '93-'99 (SC & SW) or '91-'99 (SL). Part number checking is now suspect...

I'm going to assume I use the 1996 timing chain set since the blocks are interchangeable and I will be using the 1996 SOHC head.

I guess the real question is, will I have any issues using the 2001 SOHC pistons with a 1996 SOHC head? I couldn't find any information on that.

Thanks!
