2008 AURA XE
Default Bought a brand new 2008 Aura last night - bad things started already

Wassup guys?!

New member here, first post on this forum.

I pulled the trigger on a brand new 2008 Saturn Aura XE V6, Ocean Mist on gray cloth with convenience package. Got it for a steal with $3000 rebate and college grad discount (wife just graduated). $23,500 sticker, paid $19,500 before tax, title, etc. We love it and really wanted the convenience package.

But, on the way home we got "SVC tire monitor" pop up on our DIC. I know they changed out the rims recently (because the sticker said -$455 for rim swap). Is it possible that the sensors were never re-learned to the new car? Is that what pops up when the TPS are un-recognized. I know on my Vette, when I do seasonal rim swaps the DIC reads "--" for tire presssure, but there are no further warnings or trouble codes beyond that.

Thanks guys

My Aura joins a 97 C5 Vette and 03 Jag X-type - so she's in good company

The bad thing that happened (SVC tire monitor alert) was caused by the switching of the wheels. The sensors in the wheels are wireless and use a bluetooth type technology to send the tire pressure readings back to the cars computer.

It sounds like what happened was someone before you bought an Aura that originally had wheel covers and wanted aluminum wheels. Your car originally has aluminum wheels so they switched them. After they switched the wheels, they didn't pair the new sensors up to your car and it is trying to communicate with the car they were originally put on at the factory. The dealer can easily reprogram this.

Hey thanks dude

Yeah, my car had the premium alloys before, but now has the next step down fatter metal rims.

I saw instructions in the manual for this TPS relearn process. It was something like letting air out of tires and the car will sound a horn - much simpler than the Vette that requires a strong magnet and playing with your DIC. Is this the exact same thing the dealer will do? Will relearning the sensors elimnate the "SVC tire monitor" trouble code by itself? Or can only the dealer clear the code with their hand held code decipher.

Asking, because if I do the TPS relearn and the code is still there, I might as well just take it to the dealer. The car has only 60 miles on it, so I don't want anyone else touching it until it is broken in properly - so if I can avoid the dealer touching it for a while - I would be happy.

Thanks again guys

Humy - They have to use the scan tool to program the 4 sensors to your computer, kind of like pairing a bluetooth headset to a cell phone, and this need to be done using their computer. They should offer to do this quickly while you wait. I would call your salesperson and explain the situation...he should offer to call the service department for you (since you just bought the car yesterday) and get it done while you watch and wait! It literally is a 2 minute procedure.

Ha ha, I have not owned the Aura for even 24 hours and I have already completed my first successful DIY project. Followed the instructions in the manual, and was able to program the TPS and no more codes and I can see all four tire pressures on my DIC as I scroll through. Just turned 100 miles. I am a happy camper right now

Look forward to learning more about this car on this forum.

I didn't realize the relearn prcedure let you program new sensors, I thought it just let you tell the car which wheel they were added to....sorry for giving you misinformation, but I am glad you were able to get it going!

There are some great deals going on the '08 Aura's. We turned my wife's Ion lease in early and bought a v6 Aura XE for 16300 out the door. That is amazing for a brand new car that isn't a **** box. I have an '03 Ion that that been great. I hope that the Aura will continue to impress.

When I had the Vette I was always needing more passenger space. 2 weeks after trading the Vette, my reason for needing more passenger space died.
He was my roommate that had a 12 y/o son. We went to the mountains all the time after his first heart attack and divorce. Never got to take the Vette due to there always being 3 of us. Even worse, he had a heart attack that killed him while driving my brother's C6.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks!

Time to pick up another one.

I drive a c5 z06 - best car ever! The aura and the z are perfect compliments to each other. Saddest part - If I drive in high gears I get better gas mileage out of the 405hp v-8 than the 3.6 Aura!!!
