Default 99 sw2 seems to run cold

I have had many Saturns over the years, thanks to this forum. Currently i am driving a 99 SW2 with the 99a engine, no air pump, but it seems to be running a little colder than the rest. The gauge goes to just over 1/4 mark. i have replaced the thermostat and the ects. minimal gain. The car does warm up but it does take a while. Wondering if I missed something or gauge just reads low.

Check the heater hoses where they come out of the dash and into the engine compartment, are they both warm when the car is up to temperature? It's possible the heater core may be plugged or partially plugged. Do you have a way of reading the actual coolant temperature? I would not trust the gauge 100%. On a side note, if it's really cold out, Saturn actually recommended leaving the blower fan on the first or second speed to allow the engine to warm up quicker.

Do a radiator pressure test my 2001 had a cracked end cap and didn't leak a noticeable amount of anti-freeze

autoparts store should allow you to rent one, you might need to rent an adapter kit for it as well

Also check the cap

Did you use a new Stant thermostat?
Is the top radiator hose (drivers side) hot going into the radiator?
When you replaced the ECTS, did you check for corrosion inside the wiring plug, it could be green and needs cleaning or a new one spliced on? And what condition is the harness wiring going to the ECTS, all 1 piece, or correctly spliced (solder joints only and shrink tube to seal)?

If all else checks out good, maybe add a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator, just like about halfway up to block the wind.

Also check the cap - good
Did you use a new Stant thermostat? Yes
When you replaced the ECTS, did you check for corrosion inside the wiring plug, it could be green and needs cleaning or a new one spliced on? clean good splice
And what condition is the harness wiring going to the ECTS, all 1 piece, or correctly spliced (solder joints only and shrink tube to seal)? yes very nice shape

Will let you know tomorrow on hose temp at rad and dash after I drive into work.
Will see if I can get hold of pressure tester.
I have replaced a heater core before hope that's not it. This one does get hot but takes longer than the other Saturn, will melt you if you drive long enough in town.

Cardboard will be this weekend if not fixed -0* on Friday

Ok here is my picture. if a needle off either way is good then I am probably good. There is warmth it just takes a little longer than the 97. Rebuilding a motor for this anyway....
Just used to it being at 3/8..
