Default Ignore the rear O2 = P0141 ??

So my car threw a check engine light and it turns out to be the rear O2 sensor via P0141. From the forums here, it looks like a pretty simple fix - if you can raise the car and get access to the sensor.

On the other hand, it has no effect on performance, but won't let me pass smog. That said, I just passed CA smog in August, and so have another 21 months before I have to worry about it again. And the light turned itself off after driving to work this week. Go figure...

I'm still waiting for the wheels to fall off, so I'm inclined to leave it alone for now - what do ya'll think?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Since it turned itself off . . .

if it comes back on and if the wheels haven't fallen off in 15 months, worry about it then

One of my trucks had P0141. It'd stay off if I just went to work & home (7 miles each way) but if I took at 20 mile trip anywhere it'd turn back on until 2-3 more trips to only work & home. Something to do with how the sensor is checked/tested.

I'd plan on six months before emissions inspection if the check engine light turns on for any reason to address it before you jump thru hoops in repairs and various suggestions from members here. Or three months before inspection. Plenty of time to address issues without pressure to fix something under a time constraint.

If the same error code reappears (P0141), address it at your convenience as its announcing a repeating problem that won't go away and may cause you grief later when emissions inspection comes around.
