Default Change oil in a s series without a mess

a handy easy way to change oil in an s-series without making a mess. i have been doing this for years and i thought it needed to be on here

click the link below to see the pics of the bottle and where it goes

first get an oil bottle and cut it in half lengthwise

next stick it in between the frame and axel

now do your regular oil change . the vast majority of the oil will fall into the oil bottle and come out of the spout.

you will still need a paper towel to wipe off the the axel

enjoy your mess free(almost) oil change

I tried this yesterday and it worked!!! For years I've been dreading changing the oil and this time the stuff dripped right out of the spout. The only empty oil container I had lying around was a Mobil 1 ATF container which really wasn't suited to the job, but it did get almost all of it. I'll have a better container next time. THANKS!!!

Half of a round windsheild washer bottle works better, it confomrs to the curve of the axle much nicer than an oil bottle.

Nice ideas! I was doing it wrong. I had a bottle jammed in vertical between that axle and the oil pan, and still kept getting oil all over most of the time. I am almost looking forward to an oil change so I can try this new device. Thanks again!

I've watched the techs at the local dealer do that for years, and always wondered "what the heck are they doing with that?" until I bought one.

I just did two changes with in a week ( don't ask or just search for post by me for the reason )..Anyways, I have discovered that taken the splash shield off of the passenger side of the car works best. All I have to do now is, jack the car up a little, pull the pass. wheel off, then the splash shield, and the filter is right there. With the car being jacked up very little, as compared to ramps, the oil only spilled right out of where the filter is. It didn't travel along the frame like it use to with it being higher up in the air.

For the small inconvience and few extra minutes spent on doing it this way, it was worth it!

I think the splash shield method has been Lukes preferred method for years.

I was gonna say, it's nothing but an empty oil bottle that you've got from the oil change anyway. But I guess there are people out there dumb enough to buy a pre-cut empty oil bottle. $3 per part X millions of idiots = $$$$$$ CHA-CHING!

This way, you can hold the filter more upright and, since the whole front end it not raised up, the oil doesn't get all over the frame and run down past where the filter is located. I didn't even have to clean off the frame with Brake Clean - just wiped up some oil with a paper towel and that was it. Even though it may seem like a pain to remove the shield, it MORE than pays for itself in how it makes it soooo easy to remove the filter.
