Use a very small blade screw driver to pry one end of the snap ring out of the groove and then work it out of the groove. It is hard to break so don't be too afraid to work at it a bit. I have found that two small blade screw drivers will do the trick with a bit of patience. Since you will be replacing the seal anyway, a "hook" type seal puller or large screw driver can then be used to pry out the seal. Once the old seal is out, cut the rubber lip off and then use the old seal and a large socket to drive in the new one until bottomed in the bore. You'll know when its' seated as the snap ring will not reinstall until it is.

Or a dental tool; those teeth tools work very well.
