Default Grease

I know Saturns (ball joints and tie rods) come sealed for life as the window sticker says, but my Dad's F150 doesn't have grease fittings either as they are sealed for life. Not long ago, every time his suspension would compress/decompress it would squeak. He got what he described as a basketball needle and injected grease into the rubber boots and now it doesnt squeak anymore. Saved him big bucks.

I want to be pro active and do this (if possible) before it starts squeaking and maybe avoid replacement of these parts.

No, you use the needle to inject the grease into the area under the boot either by going in next to the ball stud or under the outer edge. If its real tight there is a 16 gauge hypodermic that you can get and that makes a self sealing hole. The problem is that all greases are not compatible with each other. You have to know what is in there to start with.

You really can't. Actually a sealed ball joint (as long as the seal is not broken will last longer than a greasable in my experience. Bottom line putting a needle in a sealed ball joint or tie rod end is NOT a good idea. And believe me if it's squeaking it's shot anyway

You have to lube them before they squeak with the proper lubricant. Determining the proper lubricant is the issue. If you can find out what to lube them with periodic lubrication will extend the service life. Usually only one relube is effective in extending teh service life.
