1997 SW2
Default Window Vent Shades - Weathertech

I just broke down and ordered Weathertech window vent shades. The lighter tinted option which was $20.00 cheaper. I did search and find the outside stick-on option from Walmart.com (search engine is terrible - best result when I only input the model no. ‘94348‘ these are made By Auto Ventshade. I However wanted the kind that insert inside the window frames so I went with Weathertech and bought them directly $100.98 Total shipped to CT.

Now I wait for them to arrive.

You may want to glue/tape them in place - see posts 132-135

buying something like that is on my to do list, new work location means I don't have a lot of choice in parking. I used to be able to park so that my windshield faced the 5:00 sun and blocking the windshield kept the interior relatively cool and dark.

The shipment arrived yesterday and I installed them per instructions for now. (I did read the recommendations from the other posts and will keep an eye on them at highway speeds.) There were two provided adhesive points on the rear vent shades so I dry rubbed the mating surfaces clean with paper towel. There was a lot of black ‘dirt’ or ‘residue’ that rubbed away from the car’s 23 years. They all seem to be nice and tightly in place so I hope I have little or no trouble with these. The lighter tint is plenty dark in itself so the $20.00 savings is well worth it. There is a 12 hour keep the windows up and let them set waiting period which was 11 1/2 hours before getting in and driving to work this am. The rears are still up and will get a nice baking today in the sun. The front vent shades have a small foot that sits atop the horizontal window molding behind each side mirror which helps keep things in tight overall. Now I can leave the windows cracked and not have to worry too much about pop up storms and get a bit more fresh air driving in the rain or snow. Some initial pictures are attached.

I've had the dark stick-on vent shades on since the car was new. It was a dealer installed option. The black color matches the black trim quite well. I have replaced one or two of them in the 24 years I've had the car. My car has been almost always parked in the garage if that makes a difference.

Maybe you did a better job cleaning out the gunk than I did and they'll stick for you. I did follow the instructions, including the 12-hour period, though it was probably more like 2 days. Wasn't too easy to get in there with cleaning supplies. That said, yeah, I'd keep an eye on them, and if yours slip at all, then apply that glue I mentioned in my posts. If you're careful, you can run the whole seam without squeezing any out. Or perhaps you can find a glue that doesn't stick out as much as the yellow 3M adhesive. In any event, mine haven't given any issue since getting the glue in there.

Otherwise, I like the look and functionality of the Weathertechs. The rears give the impression that you can't roll them down too far without getting rain in at the back, but the fronts allow you to drop the windows an inch or two without worry. Good luck!

^^^^ I'll keep an eye on them. I have yet to take them on the highway so I could be whistling past the graveyard. Plus if they fly out I can do what you did and complain (I'm sure they might give me another set without complaining since their inventory of S-Series vent shades is probably slow moving). So far I am happy with the addition and its a nice looking addition.

I wonder if WeatherTech makes a transparent hood scoop?

So my drivers side front ventshade’s supporting foot is popping out of the horizontal door trim’s channel either from the heat or getting pushed just enough By the rolling up and down of the window. I was driving along and noticed the foot out and dropped down a half inch so I popped it back in while driving. Getting home and upon inspection I saw how easily the entire ventshade can fall out when the foot is out of place. I tried a length of automotive accessory black foam tape Under the foot in its proper place. Letting it sit overnight and will keep an eye on it. Keeping this foot in place is critical for keeping the ventshade in place.

Be careful rolling up the windows. I have the manual crank windows. After installing the Weathertech many years ago, I broke the regulator rolling the window up. The front ones went in the trash. The last 1/4- 1/2" was difficult on my car, hence the broken regulator.
