When I repaced the IPJB with one from the JY I also disconnected the cigar lighter to prevent the "new panel" from melting down. I now would like to use it to power a GPS. I am thinking of T'ing into the input to the lighter with a new, fused 12 gage wire run from the UHJP instead of just connecting the new wire to the lighter and leaving the orginal feed open.
I don't see any problems looking at the wiring diagram in my Haynes, but than my Haynes shows the power coming to the IPJB at F6 not F5. Anybody see where this could be a problem?

You can power the lighter directly from the UHJB if you separate it from the I/P panel.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I understand I can run it directly, I am hoping by having a parallel feed I will reduce the amps, and thus heat, going through, and being created at F5 when any of the circuits feed by F5 are used. I have run the wire, just trying to get the most use out of it that I can. I once drove 30 miles to jumper the fuel pump when it quit on my wife. If I can provide an alternate feed, it might save me a similar trip in the future.

Separate the lighter wire from the I/P panel as the second feed will only accomplish the F-5 load reduction if the existing lighter feed from the I/P is disconnected. Th elighter is a heavy load however it s used. The internal I/P wiring will not likely handle a backfeed to the F-5 through the lighter branch.

I do see a problem with the lighter itself. A 20 amp fuse is needed between the lighter and the junction of the original feed and the new 12 ga., 20 amp fused wire or the lighter could see 40 amps! I don't have door locks so I'm not concerned about that circuit seeing 40 amps. I'll see if I can put an amp gauge on the new wire as a test.

What do you think burns up all of these F-5 terminals? Depending on year the number changes, still the unswitched power to the interior of the car from IP BAT in the UHJB.
Run a direct fused feed from the UHJB main feed point to the lighter alone and be done with it. Are you talking about the 93 or 99? The drawing in Haynes is for a 94 by the way. Last edited by OldNuc; 06-02-2012 at 11:25 PM..
