Default Contest winner turns down "free" SL1

Sounds like your typical stealership scam. Still, I probably would have paid the $495 for it if it really was in "perfect running condition."

Yeah, heard about that earlier. And it was a FORD stealership too. That makes it all that much funnier!

Champion Ford, heh.

I dunno, I would take the car for free. Heck, I paid $650 for my 92 SL1 with a bad clutch in 1999. But, the body was only three different colors on mine, so that makes it better, right?

I would have turned it down also. Maybe if you didn't have to pay for the taxes, perhaps I could have taken it...then trade it for a different car

I probably would have taken it, especially if they were going to replace the tires. I have to admire the guy for turning it down on principal though.

As a former pizza driver, the pot for pizza seriously did not suprise me. Luckily, I never had anyone try and pay with drugs, but it's probably not all that uncommon of an occurance...

Did you have a lot of people answering the door in their boxers? That would be an interesting occurance in itself...

The car in fair condition has a kbb private party value of about $1100. In poor condition (which based on the description seems to be more fitting) it's listed for no value.

If they had put new tires on it AND not tried to bone me for the taxes and 'dealer fees' I probably would have taken it.

I DO hope it made the dealership look like complete idiots.

We have a dealer here that does this crap every year of advertising ($50 car!!!) during an 'auction' they do.

You can tell right away which ones are the $50s.

A ford dealership an hour from my parent's house has a "year end everything must go sell" Where they advertise that they must get rid of everything on their lot immediately, and that all cars are only $100... Well, I fell for them one day when I was 16, had my parents drive me the hour out to the dealership for their "one day only everything goes for $100 sale"... The problem was, in the ad, they showed brand new (last year model) fords on the lot behind the guy doing the salespitch, but when we got there, they had cleaned their lot. The only thing they had was a bunch of junkers that barely ran (some didn't!). Oh well, we were all pissed that we drove that far to realize it was all deception, until we started realizing they did us a favor. My family and I didn't want a piece of crap Ford as my first car anyway.
