Default 1998 SL2 Headlamp Problem

I am attempting to troubleshoot a dead headlamp. a couple weeks ago my mother noticed the driver's side low beam is not working. had my brother do a quick bulb check and the bulb is ok (swapped to passenger side) the daytime lights work fine, as do the high beams, and the low beam pass side. i have a circuit tester i have dug up (dark right now, not leaving tonight so no need to check) my brother suggested the connector that the bulb connects to might be pooched. as far as i can tell all fuses are good it is just the driver's side low beam no longer lights up. any other troubleshooting tips?

Did you test for voltage at the light socket? Check for corrosion in there as well.

I have not checked for voltage, all i have atm is a circuit tester. and unfortunately i have not checked it yet and checking for corrosion there was none.

(the tester i have only checks if power is getting to the point)

I have an odd question, is it possible to connect the lead for the bright lights to the normal lights and turn on the high beams with the column but it is only low beam, or is there more power being delivered to the bulbs?

I wouldn't go hacking away at the electrical system... get a meter and test the socket properly.

i did not inted to hack away at any wires, i was thinking more of disconnecting the high beam bulbs and connecting them to the low beam bulbs, but keeping them in their current location.

The harness plugs are different between low and high beams and are not swappable, you just can't place the high beam plug onto the low beam bulb without modification.

Don't do it, use a multimeter and find out what is wrong with the low beam harness and plug.

Gotcha, was only curious if that was possible. all i have is a circuit tester, so i will be hitting it with that here shortly.

Alright, checked with a circuit tester and there does not seem to be a complete circuit at the plug itself. Followed the wires back a bit and found something my brother said was not the problem, it was. a small sliver was cut on the orange wire and the wire itself inside the insulation had separated. stuck my circuit tester in there and it lit up. going to cut the bad section that is only about a centimeter at most, and either splice a small wire in there or just reconnect them.

Whoo Hoo!! spliced in a small length of wire i pulled from an old computer fan, similar gauge, wrapped it up in electrical tape. Both lights are working again.

Great news...BUT you should go back in and solder and heat shrink that connection if you want it to last.
The way I hear those Police down there pulling folks over for non-working headlights, I'd be doing it double quick.
