I have a 96 SL2 Base Auto. I feel safe driving in winding backwood roads, but would prefer more visibility than what my headlights currently offer. I have no idea where to start. I do know that the state I live in requires all aftermarket lighting equipment be DOT or SAE approved. I'm not afraid to work on the car myself, but not comfortable at all to touch the CPU.

1. Forget about LEDs
2. Look for Phillips HIR bulbs for the car. http://store.candlepower.com/hirlighting.html 3. Headlights do not affect the ECU/PCM |

Fog lights...
Switch, two lights with bracket, some fuse box parts, and 20 minutes work... Parts can be found in a junkyard... A 9011 bulb can be used instead of the 9005/9006 headlight bulb, with some modification to the base. Or Silverstar Ultra's...

You basically have two options: A: Replace your headlights with something brighter. Too bright is not DOT compliant. At least not on-road. B: Add driving lights (basically the same thing as fog lights but not yellow). Aiming the lights too high (where they would blind oncoming traffic) or adding too bright of lights is not DOT compliant. |

Well, my stock ones not only help light the side of the road, they also light at least a foot or two further than the lows on their own.
