Hey guys,
So I just recently purchased a used 05 Saturn VUE, AWD V6 Base Model and driving it at night was super scary, I cant see more than about 25 feet in front of me, after that the lights just end on the road, they dont gradually fade into the dark like most car lights, they just have a solid end. Light against dark, there isn't a fade. I live in the woods and deer are always jumping out. How do I increase the distance they shine??? My brights work fantastic, and my fog lights are fine. But my normal headlights are terrible. Thanks guys! |

Bad lighting is usually due to that:
-Bad adjustment -Poor quality bulbs -Opaque/yellow-ish lenses -Wrong wiring grade/bad connections -Genuinely bad engineered reflectors They're almost all easy to correct and inspect. I assume the car is fully stock so the wiring grade and the adjustment are probably untouched. Do the most illuminated spot seems well placed on the road? Is it too low or too high? If it looks well adjusted, i would think about the lenses that doesn't let the light come out of the headlights. Are they full translucent or matte and yellow-ish?

All headlights have adjusting screws. Dig around the lens and you'll find it.

Remove the low beam lamps for examination. Maybe the previous owner put in lamps; supposedly brighter halogen lamps have a shorter life by burning brighter then dimming as they age, cheap LEDs that don't work to throw a shorter beam, and cheap replacement lamps.

You may want to consider auxiliary lighting, too.

I noticed my Vue lights generally aren't very bright as well. This may sound like a silly suggestion and may not be at all related to the problem you're experiencing, but have you considered cleaning up the headlights at all? Forgive me if this has been done but I ended up cleaning off the headlights a couple times and noticed the lights are a lot brighter with less oxidation. The inside still could use a go over but I'm selling my car soon anyways so the new owner can do that if they want. If the headlights have relatively little oxidation please feel free to dismiss my suggestion :-)
