Default shifter linkage connection on 98 SL1

I noticed that the 'connection loop' that's on the cable linkage that connects to the shifter isn't parallel to the shifter arm of my 98 SL1. Is this the way it's supposed to be? The way it is now, I'll have to twist it some to install the replacement bushing. This seems like it will place some stress on the replacement bushing.

Thanks for any info.
