Default Demolition derby

So we went to our first demolition derby tonight at the Boone county fair. Lots of fun. The best event was the subcompacts. There were a couple of Neons but no Saturns. Do people ever demo saturns? If so how do they fare?

Demo a Saturn is probably extensive because the plastic panels breakaway from car in a collision. You would likely have to strip them off, prior, and weld sheet metal onto the car, because doors have to be welded shut in a demo car among many other rules such as fuel tank replaced with a fuel cell, etc.

I always wanted to try demo with a Fiero, because of the spaceframe, too.

Crash test ratings are for passenger survivability -- not drivability after an impact.

Two entirely different things.

Exactly. A full frame crown vic doesn't have a great crash test rating. A geo metro does. It's all about crumple zones and absorbing the impact and keep the forces away from the driver.

But crash tests are car vs wall. When it's car VS car, I'd rather be in the crown vic than the metro to be honest.

So yeah, for derby, crash tests are not the same a durability.
