Dizzy coolant temp sensor or what???

OK TRY AND FOLLOW ME ON THIS. i have a 97 sc2 and the question is this

when i first start my car it kinda sputters to start. then a min of idle the car does not warm up acording to the coolant guage. but all the sudden the guage shoots up to about half way, the car also revs up about 700 or so. them shoots back down to the coldest it can go. but after dealing with it and having to go to work it finally warms up acording to the coolant guage and it acts fine... ive replaced the coolant temp sensor and fixed the problem for a week. do you think that i got a bad sensor or something. it was only 7 dollers and would be more than happy to spend again as long as it runs like normal.

Have you tried to follow the threads covering the engine coolant temperature sensor? Look in the How-to section.

Typically when the ECTS goes, it leaks on the connector and you get corrosion. That connector's almost impossible to clean. If your connectors the least bit green, you need to replace it. Those $7 after market sensors are good most of the time but, they do have a higher failure rate than the OEM sensors. So, if you suspect you got a dud, go ahead and replace it.
...
There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.
