Default I'm installing heated seats, which is best 12v ignition source?

I'm installing heated seats (a universal set i bought on ebay) in my 96 sc2. The instructions say this:

"find a 12v source that is capable of handling a 10-amp continuous source
that will only work when the ignition/accessory is on to prevent the seats from draining your battery when you leave the vehicle if you forget and leave them on. The seats consume about 70 watts per seat, which would drain the battery considerably without the engine running."

What would you tap into for this?

A new direct fused line from the battery going through a 30amp relay activated by another key-on only source of 12v. That way the power they use comes from the battery but only when the key is on.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

How about the fuel pump? Isn't that 12 V and only operating while the engine is running (aside for the 5 seconds after key on and before starting, that is)?

This. Installed a heated seat in my wife's car, and bought a relay to "do it right". Power comes straight from the battery, with the relay turning the power off with the radio circuit.

+1^^^battery only. If you tap in anywhere else you will become the proud owner of electrical gremlins and might even let the magic smoke out.

Where did the mfr. come up with 10A? If the seats draw 70W each, and you turn them both on at the same time, that's 140W, which, at 12VDC, is closer to 12A. Betcha it would blow a 10A fuse if you turned both on at precisely the same time.

I agree that a relay is probably a good idea; if you were only using one heater and you insisted on wiring it direct you could get away with tapping into either the brown or orange 14g. wire right at the ignition switch.

Doing this to my SL2 as well. On my Jeep, all electrical mods are wired to my Cirkit Boss and I'm likely to install one in the Saturn as well. Makes installing aftermarket gear much easier.
