I doubt it would make it through an iron mountain, MI winter, much less a marquette (where I'm at now) winter mine started floating at around a foot of snow last year.

ride height has little to do with winter survival. If you're driving it, make sure it has good rubber. otherwise garage it till spring.

If ride height has nothing to do with it, then why can a subaru go through 1.5 foot snow drifts, and ours get stuck a little over a foot.

Well your right if only a couple of inches of snow fall and you have a inch & half drop. With a four inch snowfall I'd say your going to start having problems without a higher ride height. |

Isn't a foot and a half a little over a foot? Besides, if you measure under a scoobie, there isn't a foot and a half of ground clearance. So that's where my comment came from. If you are getting that much snow that you can't drive a car, don't drive it. It's that simple. If you're gonna go through the cost of lowering a car knowing full well there's a chance the car can't be driven during certain seasons due to the lowering of said car, either don't lower it or have a backup vehicle for inclement months.

my point is the subaru has at least a 2" advantage on our cars for ground clearance and can go through some crazy stuff like it's nothing, mostly because of the clearance. I can't see that car they had in that pic going through more than 5-6" of snow, partially because of the lowering, partially because of the body kit (another craze I don't understand on street vehicles) if other people have a summer vehicle and winter vehicle more power to them, I'll take my one car that does both fairly well. Plus with a rear anti sway bar and the RL ratio tires, these cars perform well anyways without lowering them. some people don't realize you can have your cake and eat it, too with these cars if you do it right.

actually, traction hasn't been my problem, rather the front and under body clearance. though the AWD does certainly help going around corners.

What is the ride quality like after lowering the car. What spring gives the best ride quality.

Srock 16 inch wheels and tires with Progress springs
![]() Progress springs 215/45X17 tires ![]() EIBACH ride quality may be the best but the rears seem to sag a bit after a few months leaving the rear to look lower then the front PROGRESS ride quality is very good and do not sag at all. The gain in handling far out weights the ride quality loss for me. Last edited by SaturnSdn; 12-19-2008 at 02:16 PM. |
