Default What is a DRL relay?

On my engine compartment fuse panel, there is a relay-looking thing that the chart on the cover calls "DRL". Just curious, what is it?

I looked through all the schematics and the closest I could find was a door lock relay (DLR) BUT, I don't have power door locks?

The car is a 95 SC1, 5-speed. Also, I noticed an ABS relay and ABS fuse. Does this mean I have anti-lock brakes? The previous owner said it didn't.

Just getting to know my new beautiful toy. Thanks for any education here!

DRL relay is for your Daytime Running Lights.

My '94 SL1 has an ABS relay and fuse, but I definetly do not have ABS. I would assume that the previous owner is correct (Especially living in Canada with the ice and snow and stuff...)

Incidentally, if you're wanting to disable your DRL's, I've got your simple solution.

Thanks for the offer but they don't really bother me. Is there any advantage to this besides longer bulb life? Cheers.

Naw, 99% of cars on the road here have them. It's a "Canadian" thing, or maybe just an Ontario thing? I dunno but soon bicycles will require them, knowing us!
Cheers...

pull the drl relay, the only thing is if you do you'll only have one high beam that will come on

psybapunk: It is illegal to disable daytime running lights. Gm tec. assiatance people will give out info on disabling DRL only if the car is "Authorised" to have them disabled.

DRL's have been required by law in Canada since 1989. Very few people disable them.

if it was equipped with DRL's when new you have to have them.

yeah but you tell me how many cops have a list of cars with DRL's memorized. Especially if you bought it used - "It didn't have DRL's when I bought it! I had no clue".

I'd love to hear from a person that actually got a ticket for disabling DRLs! Until every car has them I couldn't see anyone getting in trouble. Now during inspection they might notice!

If cops have time to give tickets for DRL "violations" they don't have enough to do.
