2002 SC2
Default 2002 SC2 DOHC - which vacuum hose is this?

What is the small fitted vacuum hose that crosses the valve cover directly below the steering fluid reservoir? I need a replacement one of these....

TIA

The one that crosses over and mounts to two studs on the valve cover? Rubber boot on each end?
That's the secondary air injection vacuum harness.

Yes, exactly.

Totally unavailable to purchase, apparently. I guess I will have to make one.

Here is a link to the parts diagram for the A.I.R. System, from GM:

http://www.wholesalegmpartsonline.co...rimLevel=25227

Here is a link to sourcing from a salvage yard:

www.car-part.com

It appears the DOHC harness is NLA(No Longer Available), even from GM. Your best bet is to source a used set of preformed pieces from a dead S-Series at a local yard. Most yards will not pull them off, or scrap them, so see if the yard managers will let you pull it yourself.(It helps of you have good rapport with the yard managers/owners)

Go to a pick and pull yard.

You can buy straight lengths of that hard nylon tubing in a 1/8"-3/16" diameter at NAPA and then buy the soft rubber vacuum tubing to match the nylon tube and make all the bends and connectors out of the soft tubing with the nylon for the straight runs. Old JY parts are all way too brittle to spend much time or money on when you can build a new one in minimal time and expense.

Or you can get fancy and bend one out of 1/8" OD hydraulic tubing.

As already suggested you could try a JY BUT if yours has broken through age, then its highly likely JY tubing may well be in the same condition.

Most of the Autostores carry tubing of various types, sizes and application , including vacuum tubing. They sell it by the foot. They also sell T and L corner connectors too.

I would suggest popping into the store and take the tube with you and see what they have in their bulk stock. In some cases the new tubing would end up being a gentle curve rather than a molded shape like you have right now BUT if you want to use say a hairdryer, you may be able to warm points on the tubing enough to slightly bend them. It won;t be exactly the same but at least will give you some bends.

When you own an orphan car that's been out of production for 15 years, then you have to be inventive to get by!

3/16" OD brake line works better and is easier to find. Comes in 5' and 6' straight lengths. Is also coated on outside with a thin dark gray plastic.

That's exactly the problem - so old and brittle that it just crumbles... I'm sure the local junk yard DOHC SCs will have the same problem. I have a temporary piece of hose patching mine for now.

Thank you all for the ideas on how best to make a new one and the link to the A.I.R. diagram which is extremely helpful. Got making a new one planned for my vacation in a couple weeks when I am changing out the valve cover gasket.
